This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

blockbuster trade advice

Postby jaikkhubb » Tue Jul 20, 2010 9:20 am

I have a trade offer that looks like this:

I give up:
Chris Johnson, RB, TEN (1 year left on a 5.0 contract)
23rd overall pick in our '10 rookie only draft

They give up:
Ryan Grant, RB, GB (3 years left on a 21.5 contract)
Randy Moss, WR, NE (1 year left on a 21.5 contract)
Donald Brown, RB, IND (2 years left on a 5.5 contract)

I have plenty of cap room to take on the bigger contracts. I don't like the Patriots. I love the Colts and Packers. I drafted Johnson in our rookie draft 2 years ago with a 2nd round pick. We incorporate an equal number of defensive players from every position. There's a slim chance that I might be able to acquire MJD in free agency, but I'm not counting on it. My only other RB under contract right now is LeSean McCoy. I'm not awesome at WR. I have Brandon Marshall, Sidney Rice, and Vincent Jackson as my top 3.

Should I pull the trigger on this one?

p.s. This is a .5 point per reception league with standard scoring for other offensive categories.

I'm not familar with contract league, but I wouldn't be happy giving up the best player in this trade.

I like the Moss and Brown additions, but not excited about the 3 years at 21.5 for Grant.

I guess if I knew how many teams are in the league, starting requirements, and the rest of your roster, I'd have some better insight.

Sorry about the lack of info. First time I've posted here.

10 team league.

1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
no need for other lineup requirements since none of those players are involved.

P. Manning, M. Ryan, J. Freeman
Chris Johnson, L. McCoy
B. Marshall, V. Jackson, S. Rice, A. Gonzalez
D. Clark, M. Lewis

I believe I have a good chance to trade Moss for the #1 pick in our rookie draft.

trading a player in his final year is very common and i think very smart because you get nothing for him at the end of the season. but you must make sure you still get good value for him. i'm not sure that this is good value.

edit: now that i see the starting requirements, i'd definitely pass on this deal. 10 team leagues means every player needs to be a stud.

My league provides a chance to retain any player whose contract has ended by tagging them either as a franchise player (average salary of top 5 salaries at that position) or with one of 3 restricted free agent tags (RFA auction held among league owners with highest bidder winning the right to the player. Former owner has right to match highest bid and retain player)

You have a very competitive team and are a title contender now - the trade probably weakens that potential for this season.

If you can land Moss without losing Johnson, I'd do that - I don't know what your contract is for VJackson, but if you can dump him and a pick for Moss, or for another top WR, I'd do that.
