Are treadwell and doctson a sure thing?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Are treadwell and doctson a sure thing?

Postby Dynastychamp111 » Sat Apr 23, 2016 7:21 pm

Now no rookie is a sure thing but, last year we knew cooper and gurley was going to be a star. Are treadwell and doctson more like a perriman, parker, abdullah type pick where they are just the best available, or are they actually talented enough to make a serious impact right away. Just trying to see of I should stay put with the 1.4 and 1.5 and go henry coleman or try and move up to grab one of these guys.

I think Treadwell is a pretty safe bet, he may not be a sure thing WR1, but he is going to be a solid WR2 and I think that is a pretty sure thing. Doctson is more of a flier, but he has a very high ceiling, I would try to move the 1.4 and a 2nd to get into the 1.2-1.3 range.

Personally unless I could move up for a throwaway piece I would stay put. If I could move from 1.4 to 1.2 or 1.3 for like a 3rd or 4th round pick, sure I would do that but anything more than a late pick or someone who I was going to cut for space anyway would be too much

Personally, I don't think either Treadwell or Doctson are sure things. This time last year, I felt much better about Cooper. A lot Will depend on their landing spots when it comes to determining how safe they'll really end up being.

As of today the only "sure thing" in this draft is Elliot. I do believe that Treadwell and Doctson's value will be somewhat dependent on which team drafts them. I don't believe either of these Wrs have the same skill set as Cooper. They should both be solid pros, but stars it's a coin flip as this point

I think both are solid but not a sure thing.

Treadwell is a very nice prospect and I do believe he will be a wr2 in the league. But I don't consider that on the same level as copper.

Cooper (by himself)
Kevin white
Treadwell

I think treadwell is a sure thing. Big name out of HS, produced and has a really good head. Workhorse in the gym.

Don't know much about doctson except he's 24, transferred from a small school.

I like Coleman. A lot. I think depending on what type of coach gets him he could be a big time star, like Cobb or cooks -- I personally thing his ceiling is AB, given a year in the gym and in an offense.

I'm excited to see what happens with Henry as well. Not sure if he'll be a fit.

Both are as much of a sure thing as is Elliott. No one can tell you an absolute future for any of them but all have immense upside.

He was on scholarship at University of Wyoming and transferred to TCU after his mom got hired by the school's marketing department, he's originally from Mansfield, Texas which is 30 minutes south of where TCU is located.

Here's the summary I wrote on him a few months ago:

Coogan23 wrote: Josh Doctson - Texas Christian University
December 3, 1993 6’3”– 195 lbs.
Mansfield, Texas
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Doctson

Josh Doctson was on pace to have a killer season last year before he missed the final 4 games with a wrist injury, he was a Touchdown machine with 14 TDs in only 9 games. Working in TCU’s spread offense Doctson ran a lot of 9 routes and fades but he also mixed in some short stuff. Doctson used his 6’3” height to his advantage often and made a ton of special catches last with defenders draped all over him, he’s a beast when the ball is in the air. He has good but not great hands and he has pretty decent long speed for a tall receiver. He showed laziness quite a few times in the run game and I’m sure he got his bleep chewed for it because his man often made tackles, he did show tremendous effort on a few blocks but you always remember the bad ones, of course. He was a target hog all over the field and especially down in the Redzone, having the tenacity when going up for the ball in the endzone is not teachable and he certainly gets an A+ in that department. His YAC leaves something to be desired as he only weighs 195 lbs and isn’t that strong, I’m sure his NFL team will have him gain some weight. Route running seemed a little sloppy and he often rounded them off but he usually had DBs on their heels to defend him going deep so I think that’s how he got away with it, that won’t happen in the pros.

Fun Fact: He didn’t even play football until his junior year of high school. His first college TD was when he played for University of Wyoming as a true-freshman and caught a 7-yd slant against 1st round selection Jason Verrett, later that year he applied to transfer to TCU where his mother is on staff in the marketing department.

It all depends on landing spot for me. But like you said, no one is a sure thing. Remember when TRich was a sure thing and was being crowned as the next AP? Yeah, about that...

thats my point, no interest in HS even though he was in their back yard - there isnt ALWAYS an elite HS athlete to pro athlete correlation, but its definitely a more likely to translate that way than the other; especially with skill positions.

Zeke's landing spot doesn't matter he's going to be great wherever he goes.

Tread is the closest other sure thing in the class. Doctson and Coleman probably have higher upside but both are coming out of Big 12 which produces College Basketball scores.

I'd package 1.05 and a 2nd and see if that gets you to 1.02 My guess is it doesn't, but at least that gives you the choice of guys and maybe you can push Doctson or Tread to 1.04 and snag both.

I'm not sure why he didn't get any local offers. You would have to believe that if he was decent for even 1 season in highschool he would have had some local colleges wanting him, that area is saturated with college football programs. If I had to pick a bust out of this top group I would choose Doctson for reasons like this, breakout age, college scheme and lack of sustained success in football.
