Lance over Lawrence?

Postby SStory93 » Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:30 am

I am seeing several savy analyst in the fantasy world saying that the QB1 is Lance over Lawrence. What do you make of this?

You are saying no but guys are saying the moment he touches the field he is gonna be a QB 1. TLaw on the other hand looks to borderline.

Lance - absolute ceiling
Lawrence - absute ceiling

Lawrence - Floor

Maybe in 1 QB where longevity isn’t worth as much and there isn’t as much value lost if it turns out bad. Lance has the higher fantasy ceiling.

I could see taking Lance over Lawrence. Despite the possibly dreadful CHI landing spot I could/would still likely take Fields over Lawrence.

I disagree with both assertions here.

Lance is quite a ways from being a QB1. It is going to take a bit of time to get him up to speed and even then there is still the question of whether can can make that massive leap from FCS star who missed a season (except one game where he looked less than stellar) to a FF QB1 in the NFL.

Lawrence already has every tool needed to be a QB1 and has performed at a stellar level against the best college football had to throw at him for 3 straight years, and increased his skill set and diversity of play each year. There is no guarantee of success with any player, but betting against Lawrence succeeding would not seem like a very wise investment. I’m curious how you come to your “borderline” conclusion.

Has anyone actually watched Lance's tape?

He clearly has physical talent and intelligence--but wow is he a long ways off. Dude misses open throws 10+ yards downfield routinely and takes off running almost any time he is pressured

There is a lot of work to be done

Borderline what?

This is the fantasy analyst version of a kid throwing a temper tantrum for attention. The only way to get noticed is to do or say something over the top.

Espn fantasy Mike Clay proj Tlaw to finish with a top 13 finish I believe off his projections.

All the PFF guys including the Number 2 overall in accuracy Nathan Jahnke are on the Lance 1st bandwagon.

Consider that QB is the most landing spot dependent skill position: Coaching, playcalling, offensive line, scheme all matter. There are a lot of things that happen with QB that you can't quantify.

Kyle Shanahan is arguably the best offensive coach in the league. The results speak volumes:

- Pro Bowl year out of Matt Schaub
- RG3's Rookie of the Year Season
- Instrumental in Kirk Cousins development from backup to long-term starter
- Matt Ryan's MVP Season/Super Bowl season
- Got a Jimmy Garoppolo-led team to the Super Bowl

San Francisco may be the most stacked deck Shanahan has ever had to get a QB to succeed:

- Above-average offensive line (Trent Williams, Mike McGlinchey)
- Above-average WR talent (Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel)
- Elite TE (George Kittle)
- One of the most proven run schemes in the history of the league that consistently makes stars out of low draft capital)

Lance is going into a situation where he can succeed right away with one of the league's best.

Trevor Lawrence is the better prospect, but outside of that he doesn't really have any of the above advantages in terms of situation and a proven horse in Shanahan. Meyer is a good college coach, but it remains to be seen if he's going to be the same in the NFL. On paper, it's not encouraging that Darren Bevell is his OC and Brian Schottenheimer is the passing game coordinator.

Trading Lawrence for Lance++ would be really, really tempting.
