Kerryon Johnson vs the field

Postby Weber27 » Wed Feb 10, 2021 10:17 pm

If Kerryon leaves Detroit and goes to a good spot, obviously landing spot depending, does he gain some value? Still only 23 y/o and with the right team he could flash. Or is he done?

What team would be ideal?
Where does he slot in amongst the top 24 RBs in an ideal situation?

He would be incredibly lucky if he turns into what Gio Bernard became. This is his upside. Out of the league by 2023 is most likely

Atlanta would be ideal in a perfect world. He would never be a workhorse RB so ranking him as a top 25 back in any system probably doesnt make any sense.
Was he ever better than a Phillip Lindsay?

You make a good point. I think his rookie year he showed so much promise but Detroit is a graveyard if your not super special. But he has size, speed and great hands. Just can’t stay healthy or support a full workhorse type or volume and that’s what he would need to be in the top 24 so I guess your right. Sad.

I was high on Johnson coming in, but outside of a solid rookie year, it's just not worked out for him. With all the incoming rookie RB's and FA's, it's hard to envision where a good landing spot is. If I owned him, obviously I would hold and hope or if I could buy him for a 4th, I would. I don't think there is much to hope for, but players resurrect their careers a fair amount.

I remember another owner offered my Sutton/2019 1st (1.08-turned out to be Hockenson) for Kerryon in the offseason after his rookie year and I rejected it thinking it was a terrible offer! Wish I could have that one back

As a Lions fan, I hate to say it, but I think Kerryon's best outlook is as a good handcuff no matter where he lands. With the RB holes that got filled in the last draft, and those that will get shifted around in FA and the draft this year, I just don't see him landing in a spot where he has a lead role, let alone a workhorse type role.

I might be misunderstanding the gist of this thread...but leaves Detroit? When? He'll be under contract still in 2021 right?

That said, I wouldn't give up on him completely and he has good handcuff value for Swift owners.

That's what I'm seeing according to Spotrac.

Kerryon is under contract in 2021 with Lions. Free agent in 2022.
