1QB, not much and those picks are too high to take Lawrence.

Lawrence is a boring prospect to talk about because we've known he's supposed to be great since high school. #1 HS QB. #1 HS overall prospect. Won a national title as a freshman. Effortlessly made ACC defenses look dumb for 3 years.

He's an Andrew Luck-level prospect.

Not sure why the Jaguars are going with Urban Meyer though when better NFL options are available.
Definitely not an Andrew Luck level prospect but maybe I’m in the minority.
Luck was a better prospect, but Lawrence seems to be on that level, where he's basically a cyborg of desireable QB traits with no concernable flaws. We know he's going to be good, it's just a matter of how good.

Luck ran a 4.67 at the combine. I think Lawrence could end up running something similar, possibly a little higher.

Where should Lawrence go in a 1QB if taking into account targeting team is weak at QB but otherwise a playoff lock roster, and waivers are barren (talking top adds would be Fitz, Hill, Dalton, Foles, etc)? For some extra info, almost all owners carry 3 qbs, those who play matchups carrying more, and no one is willing to sell for anything reasonable (offered 2022 2nd round pick+ for 2nd tier guys below Kyler/Mahomes/Allen and got straight "no" answers). I see a lot of rankings having him as a late 1st but that still feels high. Burrow was tending to go as a late 2nd/early 3rd. Lawrence that much better a prospect?

I don't know if this context will be helpful or not, because this question will depend on league make-up. But in my 16 team league, there would typically be ZERO starting QBs on the waiver wire, and when a starting QB goes down the backup is bid on fairly high the next waiver run.

In that setting Burrow went 1.11 last year. I think many agree 2020 was a great year for RB / WR talent so that is arguably why he lasted so long.

I would not expect Lawrence to last until 1.11 but again, this is a 16 team league.

Much appreciated insight, thanks! Yeah we are a 10 team league who tends to draft QBs later, but like I said, once they are owned getting a top guy even in the 4-8 range is like pulling teeth. So it's basically overpay or bust at QB. I have Baker and Tua already, but would like to just get a set and forget QB to limit how many I'm carrying on the roster taking up space (and adding to total season points which skews my team strength and gives me a worse rookie draft pick).

Your comment intrigued me yet again. What is the "Season Points Total" in your league and what does it determine?

I read between the lines that: 1) You can only start 1 QB for head to head matchups and 2) Your bench players' scores are factored in somehow?

Interesting, and apologies if I misunderstood. If the "Season Points Total" thing is merely a tiebreaker...ok. If it is more important than that, then I'd think having more of the higher scoring positions (I.E. QB) could be very useful.

We actually use it to determine draft order for the following years rookie draft. Some leagues use an all play or best ball setting to have a better gauge of overall team strength week by week, but we wind up actually calculating total points scored which is just adding the scores of your entire roster including starters, bench players, and taxi squad every week of the regular season. It's a lot of manual math but really seemed to be the best way to see who the weakest teams were in order to give them top draft picks and push for some parity. So 10 total teams, 4 make the playoffs and those 4 teams pick reverse order of standings; 1st place drafts 10th, 2nd place 9th, etc. The 6 teams in the losers bracket get draft picks based on those total points, lowest scoring drafting 1.01, so on and so forth. Then we also award an extra pick to the winner of the loser's bracket to keep things interesting and give everyone something to play for. The compensatory pick is the last pick in the 2nd round, pick 2.11.

So that's what I meant by saying carrying a bunch of back up qbs, even if they are mediocre, will push up my total points making my team seem stronger than it is and give me potentially worse draft pick. It's one of the downsides of using total points over all play, but I think it still outweighs all play by accounting for team depth. Often the "best team" isn't really the strongest if they are one injury away from being below average cause they have no bench depth.

After a hot start last year I could see where you would say burrow but post knee injury it has to be Lawrence by a margin

I think in SF it can be easily argued that Burrow> but in 1QB TLaw's rushing upside has to be considered (and I think Burrow will be great too)

I like Burrow too, but if Cinci doesn't find a way to protect him a little bit he wont be in the league long enough for us to find out which is better between them.

Quick! Draft Jamarr Chase! That'll fix everything

Mike Brown is stupid enough to do that too
