Hurst vs. Fant

Postby mn48 » Thu Sep 03, 2020 7:41 am

Who do you take here? Obviously Hurst has more mileage on him, but he's going to play three downs the whole season and Atlanta clearly likes him enough to invest a second rounder into him. On the other hand, Fant looks to be the real deal but there are a couple other heads in that TE room with reports coming out of Denver that Albert O may be the guy in the red-zone. What do you guys think?

Hurst has a big chance to be a monster. He is the less appealing name, but I would gamble on him.

I was really surprised to see Hurst leading this poll (6-4 when I voted). I thought it would be a landslide for Fant. 22 year old rookie tight ends putting up over 500 receiving yards is pretty rare. He's an athletic freak, has a great college dominator, sub 20 breakout age, and first round draft pedigree.

I wouldn't think the 2 were close at all.

I think Fant looks like he could be a monster eventually. I think we've seen plenty of times where one TE can't be swapped out for some new TE. I'd like to take a flier on Hurst but no way I'd even consider or come close to considering trading Fant for Hurst. I paid a 1st for Fant in TE prem, so if you gave me Hurst and a 1st I might do that.

Give me Hurst. As mentioned at the start of the thread, Drew Lock's college red zone buddy Albert O will be a fave vulturing TDs.

Also, consider the quarterbacks. Matt Ryan has fed TEs throughout his career going back to Tony Gonzalez and forward. Lock is still a question-mark as to whether he'll thrive in the NFL.

I thought Hurst played well in Baltimore. Targeted far less than Andrews he nonetheless turned 39 targets into 30 receptions for 349 yards. Ryan targeted Hooper last season 97 times. If that happens he'll have a 900-1000 yard season. Now, maybe Hurst gets a floor of 60 targets. That's around the ceiling of targets that Fant is likely to receive. Higher floor, higher ceiling, better QB, year three breakout candidate.
QBs: Patrick Mahomes, Trey Lance, Tua Tagovailoa
RB: Jonathan Taylor, Joe Mixon, Saquon Barkley, JK Dobbins, James Conner, Travis Etienne, Tony Pollard, Brian Robinson.
WR: Ja'Marr Chase, A.J. Brown, Deebo Samuel, Jaylen Waddle, Chris Godwin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool, Chris Olave, Odell Beckham, Josh Palmer
TE: George Kittle, T.J. Hockenson, Taysom Hill, Trey McBride, Isaiah Likely
PK: Nick Folk
(IDPs, start two per week per position):
DL: Danielle Hunter, Myles Garrett, Alex Highsmith, Aidan Hutchinson, Chase Young,
LB: Roquan Smith, C.J. Mosley, Logan Wilson, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoa
DB: Derwin James, Jeremy Chinn, Xavier McKinney, Jalen Pitre

* Ten team league started in 2014.
** 40 player roster, 30 Keepers per season.
*** Red denotes 2022 draft pickups.

Fant is the more talented player. I think people are going to be disappointed with the expectations they have for Hurst. He might outscore Fant by a little this year, but I like Fant much more long-term.
