Still Hock for me but both ended up in decent landing spots.

I think I still favor Hock, but I don't consider Detroit to be a decent landing spot. I'm concerned about that passing offense. Stafford had his lowest amounts in pass attempts, yards (by a SIGNIFICANT amount), and fantasy points since 2010(!). Also almost his lowest TDs too (21 last year, 20 in 2012).

Sure it could bounce back a bit, especially with the addition of Hock, but with Patricia's increasing focus on defense and the run game, it's hard to be very confident in that. There won't be much receiving production to go around in that offense.

Top Rookie Tight End- Hockenson vs Fant

Postby DawgPound69 » Mon Apr 29, 2019 4:01 am

Who is the better tight end for fantasy? Hockenson looks to be the better all around tight end, but Fant is the athlete.

I think I like Fant’s situation a bit more so that gives him the edge to me.

As much as everyone raves over Fant I am not that in love with him. I think he'll be another of these very athletic TEs that people fall in love with that flatter to deceive.

I think Fant has the higher ceiling, but that doesnt mean he will reach it. Hockenson can block already which means he should see the field pretty early.

I'd side with Hock, but wouldnt blame anybody for choosing Fant.

If I had to choose I want Fant over Hock for fantasy. Fant is basically a WR out there.

But really, I just hope somehow both are picked before my 1.10, pushing a few extra guys further down the board to me!

I like Hock the most, by far. I also think Fant will do well. I actually do think Smith in MN is in a position to be the man there after Rudolph is gone, which might be soon. I wouldn't put him ABOVE them though. Also, Sternberger in GB has potential with Rodgers.

It's Hock by a decent amount for me. Fant mostly played slot in college and we have to see how he adjusts to more blocking responsibility. Hock has more versatility. He can play inline due to his blocking and will be on the field more because of it. I'm taking the more complete TE.

Short term has to be Hockenson, he's ready to see the field week 1 and could remain there every down.
Fant has more to learn, but is more athletic, so he could very well be the better long term pick, but he could have the long adjustment period to production that we see with a lot of TEs

NFL wise I like Hockenson but it's much closer fantasy wise. I see Fant more of a move TE. He is built like a giant WR so fantasy wise I would take him over Hockenson today but might regret it in 3 years.

Hockenson and Fant are the cream of the class. I do like Sternberger a lot as my #3 followed by Smith. All 4 have a chance to be really good in today's NFL.

Ice, why do you like Sternberger over Smith? Talent, landing spot, what? I'm in the market for a TE in this draft.

He is relatively new to the position and has a body to grow into the position. Actually reminds me of Kelce a bit. Sternberger had a great last year and led the country in TD's. He is a move type today but gives great effort blocking in line and will grow into that role when needed.

Playing with Rodgers and his cast of characters isn't bad, He runs great seam routes with excellent hands.
I think he was 1st in yards per reception, second in yards, and led the nation in TD receptions last year for TE's. He gets open. I would have to verify his stats as its been a while ago since I scouted him. He will get bigger and stronger in the pros.

Great stash TE late round 2 or early round 3 in fantasy drafts IMO. Wouldn't expect a lot this year but its a TE and they take time. By next season he should be on the field a ton.

Smith: Not a fan of 6'2 TE''s with under 32" arms for a TE. Smith will be more limited in the Pros IMO. Good player but not the type I draft.
