Ty Hilton vs Allen Robinson

Postby streitm1 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 7:53 pm

Want your thoughts on TY vs Robinson in a startup draft. I see them ranked fairly close on many rankings. I know TY is older but he has been fairly consistent over the years at least total numbers wise. Allen had the one great year then the down year due to Bortles. With the running game and defense he could be good as a Jag but is is also a free agent has the potential to go to a better situation. He us also coming off ACL injury. Who would you rather have in a startup or is it more of a push.

I'd prefer ARob, although TY should be seen as a bit safer (with a healthy Luck)

TY for me. He is a very solid WR when Luck is healthy

I think it's about even. I wouldn't trade either guy for the other straight up.

ARob has 4 years on TY.
Both have uncertainty - ARob with where he lands or QB uncertainty and if he's stuck with Bortles. TY with Luck's health and uncertainty if Luck isn't back.

Robinson based on age and knowing what he can do if given a hefty target share.

if it was a 1 year age difference and not 4 i may think differently as Robinson has only the 1 great year on his pro resume

I agree that both have uncertainty, but AR15’s worst case scenario is that he ends up back in Jacksonville with Bortles, and he’s put up monster seasons with Bortles. Robinson can only get better. When you think of all the ways that can happen- Jacksonville keeps him and signs a better QB, he walks and signs with SF, Bortles improves, I’m buying Robinson everywhere I can get him this offseason. It’s crazy to me that this guy is even available.

I don't suppose I could choose between Paris Hilton and Mindy Robinson instead?

If not I'll go with Allen Robinson due to age. 8-)

Jesus- I picked Robinson really just thinking about next year. I didn't realize he was four full years younger than TY Hilton.

I agree with you on buying Robinson. Although I've seen the price on him jump in the last couple months. Everyone seems to think Robinson to SF is a done deal, and I highly doubt he even gets out of Jacksonville, at least this year.
I'm also buying Hilton on any contender as his price is about as low as it's ever been.

You say the worst case scenario is Robinson sticking with Bortles in Jacksonville and he can only get better. Completely disagree with that, you've seen his ceiling with that situation. They have a new style and run-focused offense now. No way he puts up 1400 and 14 in that offense with Bortles now.
If he were to get away and go to SF (best case scenario) he could get better, or close to returning to that 1400/14 level.

Oh Hilton is older than Robinson? Ok then I change my vote to Hilton because of age. 8-)

This would probably depend on the league-type for me. If it was a high stakes league, I would feel better about Hilton. Any other league and I'd probably just go with ARob.

Really close, though.

These are some really good points. I think the key here is that it seems really unlikely that Robinson will sign a long term deal coming off an injury, and every report I’ve seen either indicates that he’s leaving or getting franchises. Let’s look at how these scenarios play out.

If he leaves, great! SF has a ton of cap space, a huge hole at WR, and Robinson has incentive to go there as Jimmy would buoy his value.

If they franchise him and don’t upgrade the QB spot, his season could play out in one of two ways. Either he has a great year, and Jacksonville pays up to keep him, or he doesn’t have a great year.

If he has a great year, great! You bought low and you have a top 10 WR.

If he doesn’t have a great year, Jacksonville isn’t going to give him the big deal he can probably get, and I can’t see them franchising him again, so he most likely leaves. Like Alshon, he’d be smart to take a deal with an offense that would buoy his value.

This all ignores the possibilities that either Bortles passes his physical and gets cut, allowing them to sign Cousins, OR they Osweiler Bortles’ contract to somebody in order to sign Cousins. It just seems like there are so many different paths toward Robinson increasing his value, and the time to buy is now, before any of these things can happen.

Very proud of myself for using Osweiler as a verb.
