Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
This thread makes me want to send an offer for Watkins in every league. Chronic foot pain? You could put money on the over under line regarding the number of NFL stars playing with chronic something pain every year. Not saying Diggs is bad but I will say Watkins is a victim of coaching philosophy.

An injury prone WR in a bad offense? Seriously though, Diggs has been a repeat flavour of the month, because he is good. Watkins value is definitely higher, but I could see Diggs having the better career.People Mover wrote:Diggs is the flavor of the month. Let's not forget who Sammy is. Typical Diggs. Fast start then teams start to figure him out. Now he is on the sideline. I hope he gets healthy and gets back to being the upside machine we think he is so we can actually measure him up to Sammy. Diggs has not done it like Sammy yet so it is a waiting game for the little fella.

I hate the AB to Diggs comp. There is one AB, period, he has Ben feeding him the ball. This is year 3 for Watkins, right? Neither Watkins or Diggs are on a team that is exactly WR friendly. That being said, I think Watkins is the better of the two.

Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
I would prefer to have Diggs on my Roster, however, I doubt I would trade Sammy for him straight up because of Watkins' perceived value. All hypothetical because I don't own either. The only way I trade Sammy for Diggs straight up is in some hypothetical world where that's the only possible way it happens. I just don't trust Watkins to get and stay healthy any more than I trust Josh Gordon (who I do own) to get and stay clean. NOT equating Sammy to Gordon: MAJOR difference between the two is obviously that Watkins isn't a headcase and his injuries aren't really in his control.
The other major difference, and the reason I brought up Gordon as a comp, is that it's still possible to cash in on Sammy's name value, which is EXACTLY what I would do... I'd happily deal him for a lot of guys ranked similarly: AJ Green in a hot minute, Dez, Keenean Allen, TY Hilton, and if it's the best I could do, I would accept Diggs or even Corey Coleman.

Exactly. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard the "X receiver is the next AB!" comparison...mrmagloo wrote:I hate the AB to Diggs comp. Sammy is far and away the better athlete, the better WR, and has demonstrably proven that. Diggs has done some good things, but let's not get carried away with the AB comparisons and saying he's done more than Sammy, when he simply has not. This conversation would be a bit easier to have when Diggs puts up more yards than Sammy has in a season, which hasn't happened yet.
Sammy 10/10 times for me.

Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
I'm in the minority and admittedly a bit biased as I'm a Vikings fan so I watch him every week, but he is a great route runner and able to get space. PPR he's been both Teddy and Bradford's first look on almost every standard pass play. Plus, if he gets traded to a team with a better QB, his production would get a fantastic boost

Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
Watkins, then I would trade him.
Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
Diggs for me. My leagues are PPR.
Just a guy who loves fantasy football - specifically defense.
Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
Sammy Watkins's shortcomings are seemingly all tied to one thing: health. For most, that is a deal breaker. However, I do not think Diggs is quite the player that Watkins is. He always seems to start fast then fade into obscurity. Some will place blame on injury, but that is the same knock on Watkins. What sealed the deal for me was the way he trailed off and allowed Thielen to outperform him. I have zero interest in owning Diggs anywhere and recently acquired him to trade away for a QB and LB. If Treadwell, and that's a big IF, ever figures the pro game out, that is even more reason to cap expectations. That would make four mouths to feed with the possibility of adding a pass catching back via the draft. No thanks. I can do better for my WR2A. Sammy has the upside to be a lot more. Since I am a gambling man, I prefer Watkins.

Re: Sammy Watkins or Stefon Diggs
These are not two players who are very comparable to me. Watkins has so much more upside and will almost always have more value in trades. Diggs is a seemingly more consistent player with a lower floor. I'd rather own Watkins out of the two. Watkins may never put a full season together but so far neither has Diggs. Watkins has shown a high enough upside and is still so young I'd rather take the shot on him getting healthy and being able to produce at that level again. If I'm considering trading for one of these players I'd probably target Diggs if I'm looking for a 3rd WR to give consistent WR2 numbers and I'd target Watkins if I were trying to get a guy who could be my number 1 WR for years to come.
