2020 Rookie TEs

Postby ColtsRocker1 » Tue Jan 14, 2020 9:52 am

In my signature - Team 2, I'm (obviously) looking for a Tight End. I currently have 1.26.

In a 32 team league, are any TEs coming out this year worth trading up to get? For reference, Hockenson went 1.12, Fant went 1.17, Smith Jr went 2.03 in last year's rookie draft.

Thanks in advance!

TE are tough this early, usually pretty dependent on landing spots. only TE i'd consider trading up for rn is kmet, but again depends on where he goes, if he goes to NE im all in but if he goes somewhere that doesnt utilize the position all that much, i might sit back.

rookie TE usually take about 3 years to break out, its a tough position to draft for.

I know - it's a very hard position to draft for, let alone early. Not that this is anything for or against drafting them, but Hock and Fant did relatively well this year, same with Hunter Henry and Njoku (kinda) in his rookie year.. Again, likely because they went to places who utilized TEs. I'll probably be asking this question again (or bumping this same one) in May after the rookie draft. Just wanted to get opinions based off their college profile in the early stages.

Hopefully the combine will shed some light on this a bit. TE's seem to be so hit or miss and can take a long time to develop. Hopefully there will be a solid outlining option that emerges and you don't have to trade up.

If only it worked that way, lol.

TEs are a premium in this league (as there isn't a whole lot of good ones and the league is huge with only 1 copy per player available) so teams likely fight to get a top tier TE if possible (I probably didn't get to the championship because my lack of TEs). I don't see any way for me to not have to trade up if I want to get the one (or two) that emerge as potentially elite.

I haven't analyzed what the teams ahead of me need, but I can guarantee at least one other team will need to get one.
