Salary Cap Start-Up. With a snake draft?

Postby fraction » Sun May 24, 2020 12:58 pm

Hi everyone,

Some folks I play in other dynasty leagues with want to start a salary cap league (our first)... using a snake draft rather than auction. Most advice I read is based solely on an auction format, so how to effectively set up the league is a point of confusion for people. How do we assign values to picks/contract length? Does anyone have bylaws that can lend some insight?

TIA

Say that it were a 5-team league. And that every team had five players. And that the salary cap were $25.

That means that there are a total of 25 players that can be rostered (5 teams x 5 spots) and total of $125 available for the league ($25 x 5 teams). That means that each player, on average, is worth $5.

So, I would start this way:

1st-round players: $9 each
2nd-round: $7
3rd: $5
4th: $3
5th: $1

Then I'd start sub-dividing in the top rounds:
1.01: $10
1.02-1.04: $9
1.05: $8

And so on.

With bigger rosters and cap, essentially every pick can have a unique value (except maybe the last two-four rounds where everyone is $1, thus shifting more money to the top-rounds).

That's how you would do it.

It would be a lot of manual labor to figure it out. If your league is committed to it, though, then go for it.
