Need Some Team Advice

Postby FantasyFoosball » Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:15 am

I could use some advice for my salary cap league. Team is in Sig.

Our off-season has just officially started. I'm coming off a championship win.

I have four players that are the main issue.

Kamara ($28, 1 year left)
CMC ($21, 1 year left)
Hill ($26, 1 year left)
Hopkins ($27, 1 year left)

I only have $6 currently freed up in salary cap space.

We have a restricted free agent period that will be coming up towards the end of the off-season. These players are going to be prime targets. They are on relatively cheap contracts compared to other players in their range. Gurley, Bell, AB, OBJ, Zeke, etc, are all in the mid $30 to mid $40 dollar range. I know for a fact there are at least a couple of teams that are going to go after these guys and probably for around $40.

I won't be able to keep them all. I can probably finagle my budget and make some cuts to sign CMC to a long term contract, but that doesn't leave me with much to keep the other three from being poached. Not to mention I have some other players that I would like to sign to long term deals, Mayfield, Leonard, Kittle, etc.

So my thinking at this point is to try and trade one, see if I can get some draft picks and some younger cheap guys. This would help me to free up some salary, which would hopefully allow me to keep the other two players. I hate to sell one of these guys for low, but it's better than losing them in RFA and get nothing back in return.

I'm kind of leaning towards selling Hill or Hopkins. The guy with the #1 overall pick this year has approached me about a trade. He has guys like Cooks, Boyd, Mack, and Henry, all on decently cheap contracts. He has the 1.01, 1.08, 2.01, and 2.03, as well as his 2020 1st and 2021 1st.

So long story short, my question is, am I on the right track? Is there something else I should do instead? Who do you think I should try moving, and what should I be looking to get, draft picks or young upside guys, or both?

Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to let me know if you need any further details.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can't keep all the players that you are eligible to keep because their prices are about to be bidden up. Right?

If so, then it obviously makes sense to try to trade or multiple for cheaper players on long-term deals. Of course, you might not be able to get much: the other team only acquires a player with a right-to-match status, correct?

If you want to put in the extra few minutes to update your signature and/or give all the contract info, then I'd be happy to take a closer look.

I ended up trading away Kamara for Robert Foster, Dede Westbrook, a 2020 1st (Owner finished third to last this past season), and a 2019 3.05. This will allow me to sign CMC, Hopkins, and Hill to a 1 year extension and keep them on 2 year contracts.
