Start-up/Rookie Help

Postby fraction » Wed Jun 03, 2020 7:12 am

Hi All,

Starting a salary cap league. We are doing a start-up auction, but want to have rookies separate (for rookie contracts) and done via linear draft. I'm wondering how to best include rookies in this scenario, as there isn't a clear way to determine draft order. Any thoughts on this? Should we just do a random number generator? Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Why separate rookies? I'd start rookie contracts year 2, and let high bidder take this this year as you have nothing to rank teams
PPR IDP Contract Cap:
ConF (16 Team)
DAF (16 team)
DW2- Co-Commish (16 Team)

PPR IDP Salary Cap:
Hardcore - LAC (32 team)
T1 - Commish (12 team)
T2 - Commish (16 Team)

@fraction, you can do them separate (randomize rookie draft order). use 3rd round reverse snake for equality among draft position. good luck. lots of fun.

Haven't put much thought into the ramifications, but you could auction off the draft positions as well. Either each individual pick or by draft position.
12 team .5ppr QB/2RB/2WR/TE/FL
Wilson, Cousins
Barkley, Bell, Carson, DJ, White
Godwin, T. Hill, AJ Brown, OBJ, Kupp, Boyd, M. Brown, J Brown, P Williams, Watkins Perriman
Andrews, Goedert

You probably won't like my suggestion but:
I wouldn't do them separate, I'd include it all together - but its personal preference
Auction startups and rookie drafts are like oil and water. They don't mix.
If you are doing an auction, why would you put rookies in a snake draft?
Just a critical question for u

I would do them all the same, if you are targeting a rookie QB for example, let's say Tua... you may get him for $1 or 2 bucks when everyone has run out of money. Just saying.

Are you new to auctions?

Thanks. Not new to auctions (though definitely less experienced than snake). I am co-commisioner of the league, so we are in discussion about form.

As for why a rookie snake draft - neither of us have a desire to do rookie auctions generally, and thought to make that the case from year one. We like the idea of locked in salaries for rookies based on where they're picked

I would simply just hold the rookie draft separate, randomize the draft order, and do a Linear draft. Then hold your auction after. Thats what we do in our league.
