I would argue there's never been a better time for college coaches to enter the NFL. The game has evolved with concepts and personnel that college football has embraced for a long time. Teams use spread offenses, 4-5WR sets, shotgun at high volume, more designated run plays at QB, more manufactured touches for WRs, smaller QBs, smaller WRs..

You can't really compare it to years ago when someone like Spurrier or Saban tried it.

I wouldn't have brought Meyer in, but he is a good coach and can definitely upgrade this team along with the obvious in Lawrence.

College success still doesn't mean NFL success. Many coaches struggle getting millionaires to respond to them as opposed to 18year old kids. NFL defense are far more advanced disguising and confusing offenses than the college level. Some coaches handle it well some just don't. You can totally compare coaches abilities to adapt to the NFL because it hasn't changed.

The Gators "circle of trust" drama and the admin leave he was on for hiding domestic violence charges of one of his staff in Ohio state that got him suspended before his "medical reasons" retired him. There is plenty of material to say he may be in capable of keeping his locker room accountable and on task. I am not arguing Meyers will fail I am just saying there is a ton of potential failure in this and you shouldn't assume great things. At the most be cautiously optimistic.

This can't be understated. In college you can take the my way or the highway approach and make orders. In the pros you have to communicate and lead much more. Not saying Urban doesn't have that ability (because I have never followed a team he has coached) just pointing out it is a legitimate concern going college to pro.

The Jags are in a great position for a very rapid turnaround.

They not only get Trevor to lead them, they have 10 other draft picks and 100,000,000 or so in cap space. They can buy anyone they desire in FA. Players are going to want to go there and play.

They probably won't go from worst to first in that division but they could be playoff team in two years. This one of the best possible positions for Meyer to walk into in football.

Jacksonville will play

Titans x2
Colts x2
Texans x2
Broncos
Jets
Bengals
AFC East (Bills, Dolphins, Patriots)
NFC North (Bears, Vikings, Lions, Packers)

I think they can get 9 from that.

I have Keelan Cole who I grabbed off waivers early this season, he was a "break in case of emergency" after Sutton and AJB went down early.

What was looking like an easy cut now holds just that slight bit more promise with T Law coming to town.
Cole and Dede are both free agents. Collin Johnson doesn't impress me much either. I'd expect they go out and get another WR whether it be a 3rd rounder or cheapish FA. I'm not ruling out Dede or Cole coming back either, just don't have any insight there

-Builds offense around talents available, not smashing his square-peg offense into a round hole (move TEs, bellcow backs)
-Preferred one-back, spread offenses
-Tends to prefer even pass-rush splits

As an Ohio State fan, I would say that if Meyer tries to build an offense in the same mold as he did while at Ohio State, this will be a short-lived experiment. I can’t imagine NFL defenses will have trouble with the dink and dunk passing game or gadget plays. Meyer was great at recruiting incredible athletes and his scheme leveraged their athleticism to its maximum abilities. I hope he proves me wrong and will adapt.

Yea I’ll take that bet against you easily. Surprised how you’re lumping the Titans and Colts in with the rest of those teams. I’d be surprised if the Jags went better than 1-3 against those 2 teams in 2021.

He was just listing off the teams on their schedule, said nothing about beating the Colts/Titans specifically or how they stack up against the other teams on their schedule.

WOW! Really?

If I am as generous as possible, I see only 3 (Texans twice and Jets) 50/50 chances at a win and 2 (Bengals and Broncos) 30/70 chances. I see no games that I would bet serious money on JAX to win. And JAX will almost certainly be the underdog in every other game. Herbert played lights out last year and the Chargers won only 7 games with a much better roster around their rookie QB than JAX will have after selling off all their best pieces over the last 2 years. It's hard for rookie QBs to turn stats into wins because they make rookie mistakes that cost close games.

JAX might pick up an unexpected win or two, but 9-7 seems like a stretch. If I had to bet, I'd say JAX will draft somewhere between 3rd-6th in 2022.

I agree. Texans, Jets, Broncos, Lions, Bengals are realistic wins, but they probably wont be favored in many of them. They may squeak out a major upset somewhere else as well. I think 5 or 6 wins would be a major victory in 2021.

This isn't correct. They play the NFC West this year. They played NFCN in 2020.

Meyer appears to have a high IQ. He knows talent and wins everywhere.

What’s ironic is the dink and dunk college game is all over the NFL. The difference is the NFL also plays that game to set up over the top passing.

See KC offense.

Stop worrying, he is about to draft a generational QB, already has 2 good WR’s and a good RB.

BTW
Meyer played a pro scheme on defense which is one reason why his players are already all over the NFL.

Seems to be one of the best defensive talent evaluators EVER
