Should CMC be the MVP?

Postby Cult of Dionysus » Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:06 am

I was looking at some stats today, and I was simply blown away by what CMC accomplished in 2019.
  • Almost 1400 ground yards.
  • Over 1000 air yards
  • Over 100 catches
  • 19 Total TDs
  • All on a bad offense where defenses where keyed-in on stopping CMC
I understand that Lamar Jackson had an amazing season too, on a team which ended up being the #1 seed in the AFC, and will win the MVP.

But I think what CMC did was AS REMARKABLE and he deserves the MVP as well.

Usually how the Team does is worth a lot in MVP talk. CMC didn't make the playoffs. I don't think he can be MVP based on the fact that his team was 5-11 and last in their division.

He had a great year statistically though and might win Offensive POY?

Lamar is the MVP, hands down. This is a conversation not even worth having.

It's not a tie.

Running Backs don't impact the results of games anywhere near as much as QBs. Once people understand that, it should be nearly impossible for an RB to win MVP.

I understand he won't win MVP. But his season is as impressive if not moreso than Jackson's.

Great year but Jackson is MVP by a landslide. QB’s simply touch the ball more and that has way more impact on the outcome of games. Jackson was an amazement this year.

CMC is obviously the Most Valuable RB.

I think we are all aware that QB is the most impactful position in football and probably all of sports. It is nearly impossibly for a RB to win MVP but not unprecedented so someone could obviously feel that way. CMC had one of the best RB seasons of all time and Lamar had one of the best QB seasons of all time. Tie goes to the QB because they’re more impactful, especially in this instance.

Or the team that went 14-2, winning 12 in a row. Beating 5 of he other 11 playoff teams on the way.

Lamar is 20-4 as a starting QB so far in his career as well

I thought as a people, we agreed to disagree on this topic a loooong time ago. I would venture to guess that if Josh Allen were in Baltimore in Lamar’s place, he could’ve led them to 11ish wins and a division title, maybe more. Put someone in CMC’s place and maybe they win 2 games, nobody knows.

I’m not arguing result. Lamar is the MVP and there is no question about it in MY mind. I just feel that if someone has a differing opinion, that’s fine too and even understandable.

He's probably the FF MVP. He was on every roster that won in my leagues, I believe. In terms of NFL MVP, though. That will go to Lamar. The Ravens won a division and had the much better record, and despite what the poster above said about Allen, which is most likely true. I think the Ravens fail to go 5-0 with RG3 at the helm, whereas the Panthers might have won a game without CMC, but I think with both direct backups in line, it's a least a push, there. RG3 did go 1-0, but over an entire year, I think 7-9 would have been a good result for the Ravens, so Lamar did account for more wins IMO.

With RG3 for an entire year, Baltimore would have gone 2-2. Ha. That dude still cant protect himself.

His team won 5 games, so no. The problem with RBs is that it's extremely rare for them to have a team impact on winning games. McCaffrey's stats are absolutely insane, but it just didn't move the needle. Obviously we know why that is, but that reinforces the point. I hesitate to call it one of the greatest RB seasons ever, because it lacked team impact.
