Lack of accountability (AP Broke All Day)!

Postby Cult of Dionysus » Tue Jul 23, 2019 4:25 pm

I don't have any issues with guys who waste their hard-earned NFL money. But come on, man! Don't blame others for your own stupidity. AP is just the latest in a long line of guys who blew through dozens of millions of $$$ (after taxes) on cars, women, booze, and jewelry only to realize that the well don't draft forever.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/272 ... ong-people

The sad part is that he will probably fall delinquent on all that child support money he's supposed to pay to a bout a dozen baby momas all around the country with whom he had kids.

AP is Broke

Postby Orenthal Shames » Tue Jul 23, 2019 6:11 pm

Peterson has apparently blown through his over 100 million in earnings and is now millions in debt.

As a budgeting and financial advisor on the side, this boggles my mind. That aside, how much longer does this prompt him to keep playing? His current deal is up after this season and he was still quite effective in 2018.

As long as he can.

To be fair, 100 million before taxes, agent fees, union dues, etc

Still, yes it is surprising that he doesnt have a million dollars under a couch cushion somewhere as retirement money.

I guess this loosely ties it in to dynasty discussion. He won't stop playing until the league won't have him.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe even doing half time interviews while still playing as a 2nd job.

To quote Patrick Ewing "sure we make a lot of money but we also spend a lot of money."

People always seem to think they'd be better off if they had more money, but the fact is more money just means more bills. Yes, 100 million before taxes and fees is enough for most smart people to set up generations. Most athletes arent intelligent (which is one reason why it surprises me why anyone thinks their opinion on politics means anything, same with celebrities). Most athletes blow through their money and then they're stuck. I dont know why anyone is surprised over this. the list of broke athletes who were once millionaires is incredible.

He’s being sued for over $5 million so of course he is going to claim he doesn’t have the money to pay. I don’t think this story says very much.

Guilty. It doesn't have a ton of dynasty relevance, just always find these cases intriguing/baffling.

Figured anything beats more circular posts about Hill, Williams and Gurley.

This is the reason Jerry Jones is a great owner. Like him or not he brings financial advisers in every year for players to speak too. Also offers financial classes if they don't understand. I believe he started doing this the year they drafted Dez because he signed a big money contract and his family history with him mother and finally trouble youth growing up. Most of these players have never had a bank account before.

Just googled and say an interview with Emmit Smith stating the best advice he ever got in NFL was from Jerry Jones and financial matters, so not sure when he started it but he does it and this should be mandatory for all teams to do.
