I disagree on the trade up - to go up 7 spots, with zero CB's taken yet, they gave up their (reasonably placed) 4th and 5th rounders.

More than likely they'd still have gotten a great CB in 7 picks time, if not that exact player. With as many holes as they have, that's criminal stuff.

And yes, Daniel Jones was a travesty of a reach. He was easily there at 17. Could have had a top 5 defender AND the stinky backup QB. Oh well...

While I don’t have a major opinion about whether or not the giants should have done this.

Something that can be overlooked is trading back into the first round gets the giants a 5th year option. If the CB is a great pick/player having them under contract an extra year is an advantage for the team.

If the QB is even a decent starter no one will care they reached. That said, he ain't no Sam Darnold.

Found this to be an interesting article - talks specifically about QBs and mentioned Daniel Jones but should be kept in mind for all skill positions.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... -are-taken

"I think if you went into every draft room the day before the draft and looked at their draft boards, you'd see 32 different top 10s, top fives, top 20s, certainly first-round picks," Ross said. "You'd see such a different variance of opinion. There'll be a couple guys that ... each year, there's two or three guys that everybody's going to have at the top. But even those guys have shown that there's been busts at the top of the draft. Every team's going to evaluate things differently. Every team will have a different draft board set up, and a different value on almost all of the players. Kyler Murray, let's say he's the first pick in the draft, some other team might have him 10th on their board. So it's like that every year."

"Teams do not build their draft boards based on 365 players, 1 through 365," Polian said. "They don't do it that way. ... It's different on everybody's board. The consensus is fallacious. And the consensus is a reflection, on any given day, the consensus changes, the conventional wisdom changes, right?"

As a jets fan it feels crazy. I can’t imagine passing on Darnold one year to draft Jones the next.
12 team contract/salary cap 0.5PPR, 6pt Pass Td, Cap increases 5% each yr, salaries increase 10% each yr, cutting penalties by years remaining, rookie line draft and FA auctions

24 man roster - 1Qb/2RB/2WR/1TE/2Flex/K/Def
Salary Cap $1145
Cap room available -$47

The Gurley Girls (2018):
QB - Tom Brady ($125, 1yrs), Phillip Rivers ($62, 3Yrs), Lamar Jackson ($15, 3 yrs)
RB - Gurley ($131, 3 yrs) Hyde ($81, 2 yrs) Joe Mixon ($44, 2 yrs), Jamaal Williams ($22, 2 yrs) Duke Johnson ($25, 3 yrs) John Kelly ($10, 3 yrs)
WR- Watkins ($106, 4 yrs) Michael Thomas ($47, 4 yrs) Stefon Diggs ($14, 3 yrs) Jamison Crowder ($10, 2 yrs) DeVante Parker ($58, 3 yrs) Martavis Bryant ($11, 4 yrs), Doug Baldwin ($41, 4 yrs) Corey Davis ($55, 2 yrs), Michael Gallup ($20, 3 yrs) Marquez Scantling-Valdes ($1, 5 yrs)
TE - Eric Ebron ($63, 2 yrs) Greg Olsen ($125, 1 yr)

Picks: 2019 - 3rd
Picks 2020 - 2nd, 3rd

Hard to say,

Jones was my 2nd rated QB. Way too soon to tell but he looks a lot like a more athletic Eli who has a couple of titles under his belt. Like his processing speed on tape. He had horrible weapons.

I get it was a head scratcher with some of the defensive talent on the board but I think he will be better than Darnold long term who I thought was overrated. Never liked his decision making under pressure and still don’t. He is young so should get better but he makes a lot of bone headed plays.

Bottomline, it’s almost impossible to win without a QB and if you like him you take him.

Haskins had great weapons but has sloth like mobility. I thought he would have been a bigger reach. He had media love and a stronger arm but I have my doubts with his release and not sure he can handle the speed of the game.

We will know in a few years on this one.

Check out this game Clemson doesn’t even play a safety in the middle of the field because Jones has such a noodle arm.

Too long for me to go into throwing mechanics and decision making criteria I use but it doesn’t really matter today. It’s going to take time for both players to develop and rack up wins and losses.

QB position isn’t easy.
