Taking a QB in this draft would be idiotic with all the defensive talent available. Not saying Carr is the future for the Raiders, but why not give him another shot while you rebuild your defense. Plus, next year’s QB class will be much stronger.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought that. I eventually hope to see a fantasy owner trade for or draft Drew Lock thinking they were getting Andrew Luck.

gotskowski, TE?
hakeem hunt was also a popular bait.

Smokescreen season.
wouldn't that benefit the jets more than the raiders though?

The idea is to push a player down the draft board without having to lose capital. The Jets may benefit, but they'll lose the elite pick in the process.

Well looks like Lynch is going to retire again - so the thought of an RB at 4, while still unlikely, may be more understandable. My guess is though that they add an RB later in the draft, maybe with one of the other 1sts ...

Agreed. If they select a RB with a top 4 pick it would just prove Gruden and Mayock's incompetence. I like Jacobs as much as the next guy but unless you're getting Zeke or Saquon guaranteed stud it just isn't justified to take a RB that early.

Carr is better. I could see Oliver, maybe, but I believe Mayock when he says that Carr is a franchise QB, and he just needs players around him. Look at what they did this off season. Exactly that. The Raider D sucks, and this is a draft littered with defensive talent, and next year is full of top end QB's, comparatively, and the Raiders still have 2 firsts and Carr to work with via trades, if it doesn't work out this year. I firmly believe Mayock/Gruden are playing the board/media for a defensive player. IF they draft Haskins at 4, they waste everything. They are idiots if they do this, and I don't believe they are idiots.

There could be smoke where there is fire. The Raiders are a really tight organization in contracts and Carr is very expensive today but his contract looks like an out this season. Haskins would be way cheaper and Carr would fetch another 1st rounder for sure.

They could end up with 4 firsts this draft. Lots of 5th year option players to build around. This team is several years away regardless which is another a younger version of Carr makes some sense.

My take is Oliver or Williams is the pick if this is a smoke screen. Probably Oliver because Williams is gone. Elite DT's are really hard to come by and this draft has 2-3 that fit the bill.
