Their defense is about to be loaded. I can say that much with confidence. I though that even before they landed Calais and now possibly Bouye. If Dante Fowler wakes up this year and plays to his draft pedigree, providing the Jags D the last thing they're missing -- an effective rotational pass-rush -- they could be a top 5 unit immediately.

As for the offense... well, I still don't expect much so long as Marrone is running it. Marrone is another beneficiary of NFL coaching's good ol boy network. As with the Ryan brothers, it seems to take the league culture a few extra years longer than it reasonably should to finally accept that these guys just aren't good at what they're doing. Bortles' play immediately nose-dived when Marrone and his protege Hackett were hired specifically to assist with the offense and develop Bortles, and then how does Khan respond? He gives them both a promotion. smh

No one seems to have noticed that last year they were sixth in the league in yardage allowed, even despite the offense not being able to stay on the field, and not having enough of a pass-rush. Jags D only needs a good pass-rush to vault into monster-status.

Good teams have good coaches. Talent is secondary. Jax has some nice young talent, so this will be a verdict year for Marrone.

Your timeline isn't at all accurate. Hackett and Marrone were both hired before the 2015 season. Marrone was hired as the Assistant HC/O-Line Coach prior to the 2015 season. Hackett was the QB coach in 2015 and 2016 and in 2016 became the interim OC after Greg Olsen was fired during the season because the offense was doing so bad.
