Adoption and the replacement owners draft

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Adoption and the replacement owners draft

Postby scratchnsniff » Tue Mar 03, 2015 1:25 pm

Need some advice on strategy of going through a replacement owners draft. I've never done this before and I have recently adopted a team. Given the limited number of players available to select (ignoring FAs), what is a strategy that would be beneficial and why would you go that route. For instance, is it better to just load up with the BPA or try to construct a roster that has some chance to win every week.

Starting requirements are 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, plus a boatload of IDP

So, in this particular case, there are 2 teams drafting and there are
- a total of of 3 startable QBs available (Rodgers, Newton, Bortles)
- a total of 7 decent RB prospects (Shady, Charles, Vereen, Ingram, Andre Williams, Knile Davis, Christine Michael)
- a total of x decent WR prospects (Hilton, Landry, Torrey, Terrance Williams, Harvin)

How would you approach this draft? It is serpentine and I have the 2nd pick.

Best player available.

Try to trade to improve your team afterwards.

You have to take the value at every spot you can.

I'd definitely be trying to get as many of the Rodgers, Newton, Shady, Charles, Hilton group I can get. That's the stud or near stud group on that list, IMO. If I got Charles, I'd probably take Knile Davis over any of the other RBs not Shady, honestly, even if that is giving up some apparent value. I think packaging the 2 together in a trade is going to be the best way to continue to get near stud value out of Charles.

Since these were likely teams that were neglicted or had less than stellar owners, I'd try to hit the limited home run picks as early as possible rather than getting a "balanced" roster. That way you have some tradeable pieces for some of the contending teams that will make your rebuild process easier and insert you as a trade option immediately with the new league.

I think you have two strategies here.
1) Pick Rodgers first, and then build up WR corps, leaving RB for later and building through the regular draft.
2) Pick Shady or Charles first, build WR corps, then pick Cam or Blake around rd 10. If the other owner sticks you and takes all 3 in the first 10 rounds (unlikely plus dumb on his part), you've got pieces at WR and RB you could trade for a cheaper stop gap like Rivers, Roethlisberger, or even Eli.

I suspect that he will take one of Rodgers, Shady, Charles with the first pick. My current thought (and please give me your advice if you think I have flawed reasoning) is that I would take the other 2 with my next picks.

I think you go BPA. I'd make a list of all the players from the two teams going into the draft and stick to it. And in a few FA if you can, but It's excluding those it sounds like? Construct a roster through trade after that. I'd make peace with punting the first year and plan to build through the the coming rookie draft and the next.

i am wondering what draft picks these teams have and if they are included in the draft. example....if one of the teams have the 1.3 draft pick...can you draft that pick, so for your third pick your pick is 2015 1.3...
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc
Watson, Brady, Mills
Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

also, if the other owner takes Rodgers with the first pick, i would not wait until round 10 to pick a QB. if you go by BPA, i think you have to draft Cam (even Bortles) before terrance williams, andre williams and christine michael at the very least. that would put you at around round 5 (if you can't draft draft picks)
