Carlos Hyde vs. The Crow (poll)

Postby chalorpas » Mon Nov 24, 2014 11:12 am

Is Hyde still worth more than Crowell? Crowell's lookin pretty good even in a timeshare. Before this week I was thinking about including Crowell in a 2 for 1 offer for Hyde but I don't know if it would really be an upgrade anymore.

I'm not sure why everybody is so high on Hyde? I know pre-draft he was one of the most watched RB's, in terms of landing spot. Landing in SF certainly didn't hurt his value, but in most instances this year, he's been pretty average. At 3.6 yards per carry, you could make an argument that be's actually been below average.

Crowell isn't a perfect prospect. He needs to work on protecting the ball, no doubt. But at this point, I like what I've seen out of Crowell more than what I've seen out of Hyde.

Hyde should be the workhorse next year. Love Crowell too. Idk which way to vote.

I'm a 49ers fan, and I'd rather have Crowell.

Hyde loves to dance too much for my liking.

Crowell runs hard and runs mad.

Gimme Crowell....

Hyde > Crowell. People just arent patient. When he is a work horse back he will be outscoring Crowell every week. That trade sounds great imo.

Crowell's got something that you can't teach, and that's vision and immediate burst through it. ...2 steps and the guy is at top speed running downhill. Hyde doesn't have it.

Hyde's sample has been too small I think. When Gore is gone, I think Hyde will be rock solid. However, Crowell was said by many to be the most talented RB in this class. And it's starting to show. West is no slouch, and CLE knows Crowell is the guy. Also obviously why they cut Tate(salary had something to do with that too). Pettine(sp?) seems to be here to stay in CLE, and he seems to love him a bell cow back. Crowell = that bell cow back. I'll take Crowell, even though I really like Hyde's prospects.

I had Crow ahead of Hyde before the draft and the margin has expanded slightly in Crow's favor at this point.

It's close for me but I will stick with Hyde as being the safer choice. He should put up solid numbers next year as a #1. Crowell certainly has the higher ceiling I think though. Just depends on if he can keep out of trouble and live up to the potential.

I have to agree here, Crowell was a five star recruit out of high school and people compared him to Walker at GA he was just a bone head. I like the skills he has a lot. On the other hand I was never that big fan of Hyde in the first place he got a lot of hype because Mel Kiper loved him but many many other draft experts didn't weren't even sold on him as the best RB in last years draft class. I own Hyde in several leagues and am hoping for the best but I like Crowell a lot.

Hyde plays on a run-oriented team with a line ready for a north-south back. Crowell plays behind one of the leakiest lines with someone who will always bite into his carries. DLF is way to hype oriented it's sickening.

Wait a minute...you're telling me you had an undrafted FA who was 3rd on the depth chart behind a new FA signing and a mid-range draft pick RB ahead of Hyde, who was the clear heir apparent to Frank Gore? Please elaborate...

I get Crowell was a 5-star RB out of HS, but lots of kids are and that doesn't mean they do anything. He couldn't even stay in a major school, let alone produce against top tier defenses. and you're telling me, that you had the foresight to have him ranked above Hyde? sorry man, but i gotta call BS on that one.

My exact line of thinking. Minus the 49ers fan part.

Agree with the "runs mad" take.

Funny, I'd argue that the hype is what has people putting Hyde ahead, even though he's done almost nothing thus far. I'll take Crowell, not because of Hype, but because I've seen what he can do. CLE is just as much a run-oriented team as SF.

x2

I own both Crowell and Hyde. And feel very lucky that I do. But Hyde's sample size is small and he needs carries to gain rhythm. While I think Crowell is more talented, by a mile, I also think Hyde is in a good situation and Crowell carries the risk.

Or put another way, character issues scare me off. So do fumbling issues. But when you get Crowell in the late 3rd / early 4th like I did then that's money worth gambling with.

That said, go with your gut. It's a coin flip in most ways, and I just tend to be more risk averse in these matters. Last thing I'll say: I once trade Josh Gordon for Antonio Brown, long before either exploded or Gordon's off the field issues kept repeating themselves. To this day, I do miss Gordon, as he's lightning in a bottle and I believed in him when most of my other league mates did not. When he hit big, my gut twisted a bit as a result.

That said, I'm more likely to still have Brown as a top 12 WR three years from now too, so I have no regrets. Same situation. But I wouldn't add much or anything to get Hyde if I had only Crowell either.
