Martin for Bernard

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Martin for Bernard

Postby flashgordon12 » Tue Oct 22, 2013 4:25 pm

I have been proposed a deal that would send me gio bernard and quiz rogers for doug martin and mike james. Doug underwhelmed while healthy and I think gio could be a real stud. What should I do?

I love Gio going forward especially in ppr. Funny because I just made pretty much that same deal in another league I'm in where I have a shot to win this year. I just lost Martin and Cushing for the year so I gave up Doug Martin and he gave up Gio and Chad Greenway. He's 2-4 and in rebuild mode. I obviously wouldn't have made this deal if Martin wasn't hurt but I was in a tight spot and made a tough call. Hopefully it works out for both of us?

I owned Gio in one league, own Martin in another - I'd definitely do that deal.

How does this answer his question?

Funny right before Martin got hurt I traded Gio & my 14 1st for him. Posted on the forum & mostly everyone was on the Martin side. 2 weeks later Martin is getting traded for Gio straight up

I like Gio more than Martin straight up-injury or no injury--Martin really doesnt seem to be an exceptional talent to me- never was, never will be- he got put into a good situation and took advantage of it- he got overhyped becasue of his stats-where 40 percent of them came from 2 games-but that is just my personal preference.

I gave him my answer earlier in the thread. This was just a follow up.

40% of his yards did not come from 2 games! He had almost 1800 yards last year behind an Oline missing 3 players and an inconsistent offence. That's not exactly a good situation. Take away his 2 games and he still had 1400 yards in 14 games. Compare that to other top RB's in their rookie years and see how it compares. Now add back in his 2 big games (by the way, it was only 1 huge game, not 2) since big games count in fantasy

When I said stats, I meant fantasy stats or points- and I misspoke. In my league last year, PPR, Martin scored 344 points. In weeks 7 and 8 he scored 119 pts. That is 35 percent, not 40 percent, of his total production from last season. By good situation I meant coming in to a starting job--he got his O Line back for the start of this season and he has sucked--just saying--Ill take Gio and his upside here.

Martin in a landslide for me. They have the same 40 yd dash time, and both have elite lateral quickness. Gio is probably a better pass catcher, but Martin is 20 lbs of muscle bigger, a better pass protector, and has a full season of ELITE NFL production. During his rookie season while missing his 2 best o-lineman no less.

Bit of a moot point now due to the labrum, but before this Martin had never been on the injury report. In college or in the pros. Gio was hurt several times in college and given his slight frame I doubt he is ever more than the lead guy in a 65-35 time share. not an 85-15 bellcow like Martin. He has high end rb2 upside. Martin has high end rb1 upside.

I think I'm going to hold onto Martin. Everyone is jumping off the cliff now, hopefully he'll be alright. It sounds like he'll play again this season
