Doug Martin value

Postby demoderb » Thu Apr 04, 2013 10:50 pm

I am contemplating letting go of
Doug Martin and Alex Green
for
Hillman+Moreno, L. Miller+D. Thomas and rookie 2013 1.1

Any thoughts?

Unless that "D. Thomas" is Demaryius, I think that would be a horrible deal for you.

No way. Yea, you get alot of pieces. But why have 3 Rbs to get you the points that 1 Rb in Martin can potentially get you. I wouldn't trade Doug Martin for anything less than a couple studs or a stud and a high pick. What other RBs do you have??

12 team non-ppr league, quality rb combos is scarce. Thats Daniel Thomas, not Demariyus. Other rbs on my roster are C.J. Spiller, Vereen, D. Brown and Alex Green. Martin and Spiller are my top rbs. I have 1.2 as well, so good shot at acquiring another rb in the draft with 1.1 along with a wr coz I'm really hurting there.

Keep Doug. Trade Spiller or someone else for some picks if you are straight up rebuilding. Get Patterson at 1.2 in the rookie draft if your WR suck. But dont trade Martin for Lacy or something.

Soooo, you say quality RB combos are scarce....then why make a trade that breaks up what is likely one of the best young rb combos in the league in Spiller and Martin?

Hillman = crapshoot
Moreno = crapshoot
Miller = unproven with upside, but no guarantee
Daniel Thomas = blah, no thanks
1.1 = crapshoot with upside

Martin = apparent stud

I'm not a huge fan of "handcuffing" on top of all of that, especially when the handcuffs you're getting have very little value on their own. Big pass on this one for me.

I meant that almost every team has max 2 decent rbs, they're pretty well spread out and this is an extremely competitive league (not being boastful about it, this is just my opinion). Nonetheless, my thoughts on this is about the handcuff aspect which was accurately covered by the last post. Don't have Martin's handcuff, Blount's situation is still uncertain whether he would remain in Tampa or not, and the Bucs just released D.J. Ware. I think they might opt for an rb from the draft possibly after the 3rd round. Other rookie Smith, don't know much about him.

btw, I do agree with you on the combo, which is exactly why I haven't pulled the trigger. However, I really think that Martin has posted some big numbers, but Spiller is in a different league altogether.

First off; no way I make that deal. That's a terrible return for Martin. Regardless of what you think of him, versus any other player; the FF community at large consider him a top dynasty asset and to give him up you should be paid as such.

That being said, I have some concerns about Martin. I think everything was too storybook for him last year. He had a couple of rough weeks, but had 2 back to back amazing weeks as well. My biggest concern with him, compared to some of the other young dynasty RB studs, is that we may have already seen his ceiling. There's no chance it's going to be easy for him to duplicate his numbers. Not saying he can't, or won't. But those were crazy numbers, it'll be hard to say the least. I feel much the same about Morris. Everything worked out just a little too perfectly for him. That's not to say I think these guys are going to bust. Far from it. I think both will continue to be studs, I just don't know if they can live up to expectations considering how high they set their rookie bar (please see the Cam Newton sophomore slump).

But guys like TRich, Spiller, Charles; I think what we've seen from them is only the beginning. Last year, the joke named Romeo Crennel executed the grossest under-utilization of a stud RB in the history of the NFL. Reid should have him far more involved, in which case he should produce far better than last year. I am almost as excited to see what Charles does this year as any RB. Spiller is so damn electric, and talented, it's unbelievable to imagine what he's going to do this year with the majority share of the workload. TRich played last year after 2 knees procedures, and most of the year played with bruised/broken ribs. He is now going to be the true center of the offense, receive the lion's share of passing down work as well, and has Norv Turner as his OC (please reference Norv's OC body of work as it relates to RBs; Smith, LT, Ricky Williams).

All in all I think you've got 2 great dynasty RBs; both very talented, both young. I don't think you move either of them.

If nearly 2,000 yards of total offense, 49 catches, and 12 total TDs is a guy's ceiling, I'm thinking I'm pretty ok with that.

Sure, me too. Every day.

I just think there are people who will expect this (or more) from here on out. And I think those people are going to be let down. I see Martin as staying within the top 10 at worst for his career, but I don't know if it's realistic to think he's going to land top spot, or 2nd, consistently. But hey, who knows.

and sure, that's a pretty good ceiling I'd be happy with too.

Plus people tend to forget Martin did that while missing his top 2 linemen blocking for him.
