Trade nicks?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Really? 2015 and 2016?

How do you know your league will even be around 4 years from now?

I try not to look more than 2 years in advance.

However, 4 first round picks for 1 player is quite intriguing...

I would still pass.

Looking at your roster and starting requirements is there any way you could trade Nicks & maybe Turner, Bush or Stewart for a top 5 rb you like ?

Foster, Rice & McCoy probably out of the question ..... but maybe ....

Chris Johnson, Ryan Mathews or Trent Richardson ?

Those picks are pretty far out. Three 1st Rd picks in 2013 I would probably make that trade.

Do you really want to wait 3-4 years to get any return on a top-20 WR with top-10 potential? I would only make this deal if you know you can quickly flip a couple of those picks for another solid RB! The other owner is trying to capitalize on the broken foot and buy low, VERY low!

Wow!! You view Nicks as a top 20 talent w/ top 10 potential ?

Just my opinion but I view Nicks as a top 10 w/ top 5 potential.

Yeah, I'm thinking he'll wind up 10-20 overall for the upcoming season, probably a bit of a slow start coming off the broken foot. He absolutely has the potential to be a top-5 if he can stay healthy, but he seems awfully prone to nagging injuries. Even if my 10-20 estimate is low it is still enough to make this a bad trade, right?

It's like WZA has access to my brain and went thru the same process I did in my head with this post above. All solid points.

I wouldn't do this deal either for the reasons cited above.

But I will say that the times we've had a deal like this happen in my SC league, the team getting the picks has won out. We had a deal like this go down a few years ago and the picks have become: Demaryius Thomas, Julio Jones and now Doug Martin! Of course what one can surmise from that is the owner who traded away all of his picks has done a nice job of screwing up his team in other ways as well. (Note: I have his 2014 1st. 8-) )

I actually think this is an INSTANT DECLINE for me. You can't wait that long to get return value for a stud like Nicks. You only sell a guy like that if it helps your team for now, and the future.

I would like to point out that I have for a while felt Nicks is over rated. Dont get me wrong I like him a lot but I think he's over rated in dynasty circles.

Also worthy of note; shouldn't there be a cap on how far out you can deal draft picks mandated by league rules? As is pointed out above who is to say the league will be around in 3 years OR that the owner who dealt away the picks will be around and a member of the league? has he paid ahead three years worth of dues?

We have a very strong league and have trades involving picks in 2015. Everything is fair game. We're not worried about anyone bailing, to be honest.
Team 1, 10-team 0.5-PPR
QB (1): Richardson, Watson, Purdy
RB (2-3): Walker, Swift, Dobbins, R. White, Mitchell, Gainwell
WR (3-4): Hill, Godwin, Aiyuk, Flowers, N. Collins, Doubs, M. Wilson, Shakir
TE (1-2): McBride, Goedert, Okonkwo

If it were 4 1sts in 2013 - a completely different story.

You are fine at WR without Nicks, but that doesn't mean you can afford to give him away. I like the Nicks/Turner for RB help idea from above.

You need to try to get a player with those picks, A young WR or something.

Just as an example, I have been involved in a trade like this one. I traded Maclin for Winslow and 7 first round picks (2015-2022). Now I did this because I knew that I wasnt going to compete, and I believe it was a huge asset for the future, trade wise and pick wise. I turned my team around with other trades, and now I actually just traded Daniels and those same 7 first round picks for Welker, as I decided that I can win this year. I guess the advice I am trying to give is that i feel that the person who gets the picks wins in these situations, because you can always use them as trade bait; but, for a top 5 dynasty WR, you need to ask for more than 4 picks, and you should probably ask for a young player now.
