How many more years will I be rebuilding?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

How many more years will I be rebuilding?

Postby ChicagoFalcon » Mon Dec 06, 2021 7:40 pm

Hola all. My team is absolute garbage and going for its 3rd straight horrible season. This was my first dynasty team ever and I made lots of mistakes and bad trades. The league is full of really experienced players as well so I have a hard time making trades. What are yall's suggestions for the following roster? Only naming notable players

Superflex 12 Team TE Prem

QB: Baker, Mac Jones, Drew Lock lol, Jordan Love

RBS: James Robinson, E. Mitchell, Freeman

WRS: Lamb, Waddle, Diontae, Van Jefferson, Gage, Slayton, Guyton

TEs : Muth, Logan Thomas, Ebron

Picks :
2 Early-Mid 2022 1sts, No 2nds, 2 3rds, 2 4ths
All other remaining picks from future years

So...will I ever be good?

You are still a bit out here. I would hold Jones, Waddle, Lamb and possibly Freiermuth depending on return, otherwise I would shop all players and see if any good returns are out there. Lamb and Waddle are great pillars to build around long term.

Your team has some nice pieces.

I'd shop Mayfield and keep Jones and love for now. Shop all your rbs. And keep your wrs except for gage and slayton.

TE keep muth and Thomas.

You have a good wr group. You need to hit on some QBs though. I'll post a more detailed response later.

Okay back for more detailed analysis.

I think your definition of really experienced owner may be different than mine. More experienced owners should be making more trades. It should be fairly straightforward to get mutually beneficial trades and not just one side win trades.

Okay onto the team analysis. Can you post your starting requirements?
QB: Baker, Mac Jones, Drew Lock lol, Jordan Love
There isnt much to do with this group. Love and Jones are holds to see if their value will increase. I think Jones can be a quality starter in a year or two. Mayfield is a guy I would look to move for a couple picks one in 2022 and a 2023 1st. Unsure of his value now if you can get a 2022 1st and 2023 1st, you may have to add a pick to your side.
RBS: James Robinson, E. Mitchell, Freeman
All three of these guys are sells. Robinson and freeman because their value to contenders this year is higher than their likely values next year and Mitchell because his value is high now and you need QB help. By the time you have the QBs Mitchel will be older. Move him for high value now.

WRS: Lamb, Waddle, Diontae, Van Jefferson, Gage, Slayton, Guyton
Definitely your best group. Lamb and waddle have wr1 written all over them. Diontae is more of a question depending on what the Steelers do. I'd consider moving him if you can get a QB or something like Juedy and a first. Slayton and Gage you should move for whatever you can get. Van Jefferson is intriguing, but you can probably move him to a contender for decent value. Guyten is one of my holds unless again you can get great value. The wr2 spot on lac is up for grabs right now. If guyton can grab it for next year his value will rise dramatically.
TEs : Muth, Logan Thomas, Ebron
Thomas and Muth should be good. Definitely a hold group.
Picks :
2 Early-Mid 2022 1sts, No 2nds, 2 3rds, 2 4ths
All other remaining picks from future years
Nice. Keep holding your own picks for now until you see an improved season.
So...will I ever be good?
You will be once you stop trying to patch together seasons.

You have the makings of an elite wr group. Buy your most important positional group (QB) is below average right now. You'll either need to improve this group by trading for a top QB or drafting. I think the better move is drafting is able. Your RB group is 2/3 win now pieces in Robinson and freeman. While I think Robinson has carved out a nice role moving into next year, it's going to be 50/50 on a bad team with likely not enough volume to be more than an rb2.

You need to go to the contending teams and work on trading your rbs for picks, wrs, and/or QBs.

Great time to cash in on Mitchell. I'm not sure I trust the SFO RB situation to stick (Breida, then Mostert, Wilson, Tevin Coleman, McKinnon, drafting Sermon). He just commanded 2 1sts and a 3rd in one of my leagues so his value is hot.

I'd sell the other RBs but Robinson value is low at the moment. Freeman is probably at his sell peak as well. Move em out!

Tough to be new to dynasty in a league where most of the other owners have been playing this format for awhile. Mistakes will inevitably happen, but things can change relatively quickly in football.

I really like those 3 WRs, and Friermuth looks like a player, so that's helpful in a TE premium league. Those guys are your core you'll build around going forward. Everyone should be available for the right price, but I'd be actively shopping the following players:

Mac - Just don't think he will ever be more than a mid to back end QB2 - I'd be fine with a mid first or a late first and a 2nd.
Mitchell - 6th round RB who plays in a roulette wheel of a backfield - if you can get a mid-late 1st for him I'd cash out
Robinson - Etienne should be back healthy for the start of the offseason program and the Jags still stink - any 1st or early 2nd for him is an easy accept in SF IMO
Freeman - Assuming that's Devonta, sell for anything - late 2nd would be great, even a 3rd is fine in your situation
Gage - Sell for anything - late 2nd or a 3rd is fine
Slayton - Any 2nd, hold otherwise

Baker for me is a hold for now, given the year he has had. I doubt you'll get good value for him now. I'd sell for 2 firsts, but you probably won't get that right now. Better off holding him and hope he rebounds when he's healthy in 2022. As for your picks, hold them until the draft gets close and make them available at that time. If you end up staying where you are in the draft just take the best player available and keep building. You probably won't be competitive next year, but keep plugging away and hope most of your decisions pan out so you can contend heading into 2023. Good luck!

The other thing that I don't think anyone mentioned is this.... it's YOUR team. Float Mitchell out to the rest of your league, and if you yourself don't like the offers you are getting, and you like the player then keep him. Sometimes in dynasty the best deals are the ones you don't make.

It's not about how many years.
It's about improving your team with a consistent plan.

Never make moves to make moves.
Have a concrete plan and only make moves that fit that plan.

You have solid WRs and they will likely - as a whole - be better next year.

You are clearly behind at QB, RB, and TE.

Muth could be solid and you can't fix everything at once so I would put that position as your 3rd priority.

I agree with the above. Sell Baker. You have to get a decent first for him. He's not a league winner. You already have two firsts. Get another one as well (and more if possible).

I would only move Mitchell if I could get a mid first at worst - even then it would have to be for someone I was actually targeting. He has been terrific and clearly separated himself on that team as the guy. That's a terrific team to be the guy on. I think it's taking a bit for the dynasty community to accept him for what he is - a starting RB back on one of the run heaviest teams in the league.

I'm the biggest JRob fan, but what's going on in Jax is an abomination. He got benched for the first fumble of his career on the play after a teammate made an inexcusable drop and kept playing. I would trade JRob but only if you can get a first for him. Anything less is pointless.

Just by doing the above you can find yourself with 4 first in the draft to go after QBs and RBs. If there are not players you love in the draft - then trade those picks for future firsts and more.

Be patient. One move at a time. Always with the goal of getting truly better, not just making moves for the sake of doing so.
