Diggs for multiple 1sts

Postby olmansmith » Thu Oct 21, 2021 4:19 pm

I'm a middle of the pack team that's deciding to tan, selling Diggs. Does this feel like appropriate value in SF? Feels like its pretty even but I'm always concerned with the "give a stud, get back some less-stud players" ... maybe because this is my first foray into tanking

Seems light with both 1sts being late. I would hold and look for a better deal. Diggs can help jump start a retool, but I'm not sure this is the deal.

I'd seek out early picks. I'd much rather an early 1st in 2023 plus a random 2nd ahead of the deal you show above.

Hmm ... strategy question then - how do you get early picks if the contenders (who'd want diggs) are going to be projected late picks? There's only 1 contender with early picks in 2022 or 2023 and he feels that diggs < early 1st. All the teams that feel like they have a chance of being good in 2022 but not in 2023 (so they'll have a chance of being early picks) have already traded their 2023 picks.

That's why I'm considering cutting my losses and taking the deal, not sure a better offer will materialize. I might be competitive in 2022 but if not, I'm holding out until Diggs enters his 29yo-30yo season in 2023 which feels risky while making my 2022 pick lower than I'd want.

Exactly as you describe... I was thinking of a playoff team that had a high pick that wasn't their own. I'm surprised a contender wouldn't be willing to move an early 1st for Diggs. Doesn't he know how bad the 2022 class is going to be? LOL. Diggs will hold value for at least another year so it's all about striking when the timing is right. Tough to be patient. Sometimes it pays to take the bird in hand but I've also seen it play out where teams are willing to really ante up when the trade deadline approaches or in the offsesason when they are crafting their next season's outlook.

Unfortunately he has 2 early 2023 1sts but no early 2022 1sts.

Yeah your points make sense ... guess I'll just hold out. Problem is my team is a fringe playoff team but given my schedule I'll probably end up around like 6th pick. I was hoping to trade away some of my studs to move more towards the top of the draft.

Diggs > 2023 early 1st. If a contender won't move that pick for him, then he is really not that into him. That should be a no-brainer deal for someone who's shooting for the top. Maybe Diggs's so-so start has gotten some owners to cool down on him.

I'd be a lot more into 2023 1sts than 2022 1sts. I'd explore that path for sure. Shoot for both and settle for the one you thing will be highest and add a 2nd.
