This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Chris Carson on IR

Postby gpaok » Fri Oct 15, 2021 6:24 pm

Seems like someone in these forums (don’t recall the name) had a good instinct to call out that Carson might have a serious injury - does anyone think that the next man up (Alex Collins) is worth a flier?

That really depends on cost. I picked up Collins for $1 in a salary league last week. For that investment, he's certainly worth it.

Collins is worth the pick up if he is still available or for very cheap. He could see some solid work though.

I think that’s low, but you’re going to have to wait a while for others to realize it. In two weeks Collins is averaging about 70 yards a game with 1 TD. The TD came before he was the starter and both games he’s around 40ish yards rushing and 30ish yards receiving. Of note, he did ‘better’ the game before he was the starter, but then again his starter game saw Russ get hurt and Geno take over. Now he faces the Steelers D and likely won’t shine this week either. So after this week his numbers will look low… that said, I think starting next week he begins to prove he’s better than his previous two games. That only leaves him two ‘prove it’ games before Carson is available to come back from IR… if he’s healthy, which he might not be.

I got him for $1 two weeks ago and I want to sell him, but might have to wait a couple weeks for him to show his worth.

Buy him cheap now or cheaper after the Steelers.

I was hoping for more than just a 3rd round pick for Collins. However, if Carson only misses the required 3 weeks, I might be better off taking what I can get for him before he loses his starting spot back to Carson...especially with facing the Steelers and Saints the next two weeks. Collins might still have some value due to volume, but not overly excited about him with Geno at QB.

3rd is too low. That comment is on point about his numbers likely looking bad after this week too. But the fact remains he's a lead back for at least the next 3 games. That value can't often be found on waivers, and you should be able to get more. I would bet decent money that it's still a 50/50 split if/when Carson does return, and I'm not convinced he even comes back.

Watch fantasy doctors on youtube. You can't do anything about game time injuries that get diagnosed quickly but you get sneaky adds of players that are questionable or head coach talking them up with playing time.

This season I've grabbed Collins in all leagues the week before he went on IR based on these guys worst case scenario. It is really helpful for quad, calf strains and ankle sprains that haven't been diagnosed as mid to high sprains.

The Carson one sounded really iffy to me after he 1st popped up with the neck injury I went straight for Collins off waivers.

Obviously works best in redraft but I've grabbed Collins in dynasty and players like Herbert, Perine, Darrell Williams, Patterson etc off their pre season injury risk podcast.

Paid off hugely as I am starting both Herbert and DW during Jrob (BYE) and Chubb (INJ) week.

This.

Also, don't forget about Penny. I know he's not the prospect he used to be, but he will steal touches from Collins if/when he gets back. When healthy (which has been his biggest hurdle), Penny has played well.
