Akers trade

Akers trade

Postby Outback6 » Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:45 am

I was offered what will likely be 2022 pick 1.11 or 1.12 for Cam Akers. My team is in a SF, TE premium league. I have a young team which could make the back end (5-6) of the playoffs this year. Thoughts appreciated

Some of the Akers trades are so tough the last week because it's a gamble to sell or hold. A mid 1st makes it a bit easier to get out and sell while a late 1st is less appealing. If you are tying to get out and avoid what could come in the future, I could see making the deal.

Again, it's a gamble to sell or hold and it depends on which way you want to gamble.

eh... maybe ask for a 2nd on top? or a mid-2nd valued player.

at the least ask a couple other teams that are maybe rebuilding for a future 1st

I'd take the late first. History says he won't be anything remarkable after his injury.

Akers is young. Next years back end of the draft isn’t looking great. Hold and get the mid 1st next year if he’s in track with recovery.

I sold in both leagues I had him

I would take the 1st over Akers.

There's a lot of risk in that strategy. The Rams will most likely address the position in FA or the draft. Very unlikely they sit back and hope for the best on a RB coming off an achilles, who they won't have seen on the field since the injury. I think a lot of people are assuming a lot to think Akers value will rise next off season. They are making the assumption the Rams depth chart will look the same, and I think that's a risky assumption.

Personally I think it’s riskier to take a late 1st in a pretty shallow draft next year. They haven’t even put him on IR yet? While I think he lands there, we don’t know how severe the injury is yet. If I’m a contender this year and I can grab Akers with what’s supposed to be a late first 10, 11, 12 in next years draft, I’d probably take that gamble.

I do respect the decision to punt however.

I just bought Akers for a very similar price, albeit in a 1QB, non-TEP league (22 1st that I expect to be late + Baker for Akers and Hardman). I guess that means I’m in the hold Akers camp. I don’t see his value getting any lower than it is right now. I understand the concern about his recovery, but he’s also the youngest and arguably best RB to suffer a torn Achilles, so if anyone is likely to buck that trend, it’s him. At the very least, I think you can get more for him further down the road, as long as his recovery progresses on schedule. If you’re worried about the Rams bringing in significant competition via the draft or free agency, just make sure you sell early next offseason.

I mean, realistically, how much lower can his value go in the next year? If you owned him before the injury, that means you likely either spent a top 5 rookie pick on him in 2020 or you paid even more in a trade. If you can’t still get at least a late 1st for him next offseason, you might as well just hold and hope he makes a full recovery.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties
