OBJ Advice

Postby RoyalPalmer » Fri Jul 16, 2021 2:17 pm

yo! After a two years in the gutter I feel like my team may be able to turn the corner. Team two in my signature. A 12 team Superflex, 25 roster, .5 PPR and TE Premium.

J'Marr Chase, Ayiuk and Dionte seem to be my WR core moving forward with the hopes that E. Moore, Paris Campbell and Reagor supplement them. Woods and OBJ are more of my vets who may be on the expendable side of things. Outside of Gio Benard, N'Keal Harry and potentially Hawkins/Donovon Peoples-Jones there isn't anyone I'm willing to drop, which means there are limited spots to add to the roster through draft. What I'm getting at is I feel like moving my 1st this year for an upgrade at WR due to the draft being on the weaker side and having a somewhat crammed roster.

I've been looking for teams that are both in win-now mode but also have spent draft capital the past couple seasons. I'm thinking of proposing OBJ + 2022 1st for a more reliable WR. Some names that stand out on teams that are in a situation of regaining capital while staying competitive are:
Mike Evans
Amari Cooper
M. Thomas
Keenan Allen

I would add to this proposal to try to land any of those names. Question is, is the 2022 1st + OBJ far off from those names above, pretty close, or is my roster a little too much on the young side to be making a move like this. I can't imagine I can get a premium young WR for OBJ and a pick, so I'm looking for consistency and an upgrade on OBJ.

As always, thanks for the conversation this forum is always a great resource.

I think this will be very owner to owner dependent. Some owners still have hope in Beckham, so a blanket yes or no is tough to say here. Do you know if any of the owners with the listed players are still interested in acquiring Beckham? Based on the names listed, outside of Thomas the other three are pretty varying owner to owner also, so there may be a chance to work something there?? Evans and Allen both seem to be obtainable this offseason for a solid price.

Yeah I need to put some more feelers out there for sure and you bring up very good points. Owning OBJ I obviously lean toward the feeling he bounces back this year, but that's probably mostly based on my own bias
One of my big questions is are K Allen or Evans really that much of an upgrade to OBJ. Obviously he hasn't been the same since going to Cleveland but that offense seems to be putting it together now. Or do I just stand pat, hope OBJ can get back to at least low WR2 numbers and add more through the draft?

I own OBJ and wouldn't trade him and a 1st for Evans or Allen. I think I would for Thomas and Cooper.
I still believe though, probably because I own him.

I think Allen would be a huge upgrade. He is a target hog and could really contact with Herbert this year.

Well this is dynasty haha. I actually am a little worried about Cooper as Lamb gets more targets or if he is moved for cap.purposes. But I do that he is younger. It's a tough call.

I think Allen stays highly productive for another two to three years and agreed if Cooper is moved to a bad situation it could get ugly. I think Dallas has a contract out next year.

Michael Thomas owner is into the trade as well.

So far the flowing deals could happen.
OBJ + 2022 1st for:
Kennan Allen or Michael Thomas or Amari Cooper.

Am I offering too much? Seems like this is a no brainier for everyone else haha

2022 1st + OBJ for:
KA - feels like an overpay and I don’t want to overpay for a WR at the value cliff.
Amari - you get a little younger but again feels like an overpay. Cooper feels safe but not sure he puts you over the top.
MT - if you get 2019 version of MT, this is definitely worth it. But QB situation is iffy and his value is already starting to decline (which is why this option is available).
In summary, MT has the highest ceiling, but I don’t feel great about any of these deals. Maybe it’s because I like OBJ to bounce back this year.

Great post. Here is where I'm sitting
KA - I may see if the owner will send a 2nd back. Maybe I add something small to balance it out a touch since this owner is in the rebuild territory (he would probably flip OBJ too).
Amari - This was close to my least favorite when I made the initial post. However, those two extra years could be huge. He may not be a top 10 WR, but I feel that Coop is pretty safe to be a top 25 WR for the next 3-4 years. The value between OBJ and him may be pretty similar this year if all goes right for OBJ, but my gut says that Odell may only have two more top 32 WR seasons in him if he bounces back this season. My main focus on this trade is to get a little more consistency in my WR group and Coop could bring that, and bring it longer than KA can.
MT - Feel absolutely the same on this one. It's either a grand slam, or a lateral movement where I lose a 1st. It's very risky, may be a little too much for my taste. Still very tempting though because it's the type of move that could potentially push my team over the top for the next two seasons.

Also for context, in the last two drafts I have had multiple 1sts, and multiple 2nds. I feel like my cupboards are pretty full to where I can get a little greedy with my 1st this year in what looks like a weaker draft.

Thanks for the feedback, would love to hear other's thoughts but the context so far has been very helpful.
