Updated: Trade for Tua?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Updated: Trade for Tua?

Postby mnpacker » Wed Jun 30, 2021 7:54 pm

For team 2 in sig, would you trade the 2.07 & 2.08 for Tua? I'm not sure that I have enough roster space to use all 3 of my picks anyway. I feel like that's a bit spendy for Tua though. Thoughts?

Get: Tua

Give: 2.07 & 2.08

In this class, I probably would but I dont think the depth is exciting at all. Tua gives you a young option while you wait for Watson.

Are QBs pricey in your league or is there a safer option for the same price?

With 12 teams maybe you'd get Mac at that range. Personally I don't think that's a bad price given the lack of depth in this class. Even though Tua didn't show well in 2020 it was a weird year so I'm giving him a pass.

I admittedly have a share, and am not worried at this point. I still think he's got a decent amount of upside. Personally if I needed a QB I'd rather take a shot on Tua than throw the darts at 19 and 20. The players in that range just don't excite me much.
14 Team, No-PPR, 20 Man Roster, TD Heavy, TD = 6, FG = 3, Start: QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, Flex, K, D
QB: L. Jackson, B. Purdy, T. Lance
RB: J. Mixon, N. Chubb, A. Dillon, J. Cook, K. Mitchell, J. McLaughlin, Z. Evans
WR: J. Chase, C. Godwin, D. Johnson, J. Reed, C. Tillman
TE: TJ Hockenson, D. Njoku, B. Jordan

14 Team, .5 PPR, 18 Man Roster, Rush/Rec TD = 6, Pass TD = 4, FG = 3, Start: QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, Flex, K, D
QB: L. Jackson, T. Tagovailoa
RB: B. Robinson, K. Walker, R. Stevenson, K. Herbertl
WR: C. Olave, T. Higgins, B. Aiyuk, N. Collins, Z. Flowers, M. Mims
TE: K. Pitts, D. Njoku

With only 18 roster spots, there are some QBs available on the waiver wire. Some other QBs I'd consider are: Winston, Darnold, Fitzpatrick or Jimmy G. I could use one of those picks on them.

Grabbing Winston or Darnold would be a decent way to go too since Tua is far from a known producer.

So, I'm revisiting this topic from the off season. For team 2 in sig. I've been hurting at QB (only 1 QB league). Prices are too high for most top 12 QB's. The owner of Tua approached me again today to gauge my interest. I have Watson taking up space on my roster. Then, I also have D. Jones and Z. Wilson playing inconsistently. Would you trade a 2023 3rd for Tua? Or, does this just add a third inconsistent QB to the mix, causing more headaches? Thanks.

Side note...I do have Fitzpatrick and T.Taylor sitting on IR at the moment.

I'd do it.

We know that barring injury, Tua is the starter in Miami for the rest of 2021. Almost certainly he'll be the starter in 2022 also. In SF, that's easily worth two 2nds for a team that sees itself as a contender.

I see your point. However, this is not a SF league. Only start 1 QB. Still do it?

I'd still do it. Two mid-2nds aren't much in 1QB. Just two dart throws at guys you end up convincing yourself to like a lot more than you did before they ended up on your roster. The key is your QBs right now kind of stink - I keep hoping for DJones to turn it around and be more consistent, but I'd hate to have to depend on him for my QB production. Tua isn't a T12QB this year so far, but he's an upgrade over the guys you have now. If Tua is healthy the rest of the year, he should provide decent stats (200+yds/gm, 2TD/gm) to make sure QB production isn't a problem for your team. Right now, you can't count on Tua to carry your team, but I don't think he'll sink your team. We'll call him a good fantasy game manager.

Seems like a good, fair price for Tua.

Tua is trash. You get QBs like Tua in the second round all the time. No way I’m I spend two 2nd on him. Just ride it out with Wilson, Jones, and Watson. Next year you’ll have Watson and Wilson and be fine in 1 QB
