Hopkins for Kelce (update)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Hopkins for Kelce (update)

Postby MFundercover » Sun May 16, 2021 11:37 am

I offered Hopkins/Drake for Kelce/Brady. He thought about it for a while, so I know he was close to accepting.

But then he countered with Andrews/Brady for Hopkins, which I immediately declined. Told him I need Kelce to get Hop.

I think he will have to accept if I upgrade Drake in the original offer. Would that deal be worth it for me if I included Harris, Edmonds, or Jrob? Could maybe throw in an upside player like Njoku or Cephus on top to make sure he accepts.

Opinions on that? I feel like Kelce/Brady are great fits to extend a 2 year window.

I could see adding Edmonds if it gets the deal done. Brady would buy time until Watson gets back.

I would think Drake or Edmonds should get it done.

Damn, this guy is tough. He really thinks he can get my Hopkins for his Andrews.

He significantly upgrades at WR, and also has Conner so he gets control of the AZ backfield. Upgrades an RB or flex spot. Loses Kelce but still has Andrews. Brady is his 3rd QB and he has Mahomes in a 1qb league. It's a slam dunk trade for him imo can't believe he isn't smashing accept. Maybe I'm crazy.

It's not worth it for you without Kelce involved in my opinion. I would move on.

Don't think it's a slam dunk trade at all. Even without a TE premium he's giving up a difference maker to a contender and getting only Hopkins back. Hopkins certainly is good, but there are a lot more comparable wrs to Hopkins than there are TEs to kelce.

If he's not a contender send him an offer that a rebuilding team would value more.

I'm not saying it's not a decent trade value wise, I'm saying that this trade hurts his chances of winning.

His team:

QB: Mahomes, Darnold, Brady
RB: CMC, Montgomery, Conner, McKissic, White, Moss, Perine, Brown, Barber
WR: Cooper, Chark, Parker, Anderson, Cooks, Bourne, Meyers, Amendola, Jjaw, Dorsett,
TE: kelce, Andrews

Taxi: Love, Duvernay, Peoples-Jones, Bryant, V Jefferson, Coulter, Schwartz, S Williams, T Terry, Pojan

Bolded are his current starters. Hopkins is a considerable upgrade to his WR core. Nobody will give him 2 cents for Mark Andrews, and he's not getting a better WR than Hopkins. Conner is a question mark and between him and Edmonds he would have a RB/Flex spot locked in. He's upgrading 2 starting spots for Kelce. His team has been top 5 for the past couple seasons but his lack of flex WR/Flex has kept him outside of the truly elite bubble. He'd be better off fleshing out his starting lineup imo. He gets crushed at those spots.

Every ranking, adp, and trade calculator I've see has Hopkins = Kelce so I don't see my opinion as being a hot take. Kelce is a stud but so is Hopkins. He's one of the most dependable assets in fantasy.

As I said, the trade value wise seems fine, but I do not think it improves his chances to win, and infact it lowers it. If a trade lowers your chance to win it better improve your value in the future. Hopkins just doesn't do that.

Hopkins/Edmonds for Kelce/Brady

Going to miss Hopkins. He gets a lot of disrespect in the fantasy community because he's considered an "elite" WR but isn't quite as good as the all time greats. But the guy is such a pro, so reliable and still on top of his game. One of my favorite all time players I've owned.

I still like this deal for your build. Nice one! Took a while to get it done for you. Always nice once a deal is finalized after lots of back and forth.
