Fair, ridiculous or veto worthy trade?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Fair, ridiculous or veto worthy trade?

Postby fantasydem » Thu May 13, 2021 1:00 pm

So this is a 12 team Superflex PPR, PPC league and a trade of Damien Harris, 2.3 & 22 1st (late) for Derrick Henry just went down. A few people commented saying it was robbery, I’m curious if this is a vetoable trade?

Some owners are pretty worried about Henry slowing down and having no value coming out of next year based on age and wear. When it's over for a RB, it's usually very quick and seemingly out of nowhere. That being said, this is a pretty rough deal. I could see the other owner being very high on Harris, but it's still rough. Bad trade but certainly not veto worthy. A Veto is the last resort if a trade is so absurd that there is no way to even remotely understand it. If two owners agree on a deal fairly, a deal is a deal.

I mean, bad trade, but nothing like open collusion.

I could see a guy in a SF thinking he would get either Mac Jones(maybe a pat fan) or an early NFL 1st in Waddle, plus the NE "lead back" + a 1st. It's bad value but not veto worthy.

Was there collusion? If the answer is no, then it isn't veto worthy

I much prefer to the Henry side. OTOH, if my team was not a contender, I'd consider that offer. Except I have absolutely no interest in DHarris. Gimmee another roster spot waster.

Henry has 1-3 more top seasons left. If an owner thinks it's closer to 1 than 3, getting a 1st and a 2.03 is not a bad return in SF. I can understand other teams being unhappy a strong team added Henry like this, but that's their problem, not the guy trading Henry to improve his future.

As commish, for "controversial" deals like this one, I ask the complainers something like, "Where was your offer for Henry? Why didn't you offer two 1sts and a WR2 for him?"

Undersold on Henry, but I can see a scenario in which the owner would do so.

And to the bolded part, "Hell Yeah!" I get so tired of owners whining about trades that go down, when they weren't actively involved trying to land the player. You like Henry? Why not ask about the price to add him. It's just sour grapes more often than not with these upset owners.

Get involved, get active. Don't complain after the fact.

Stupid of the Henry owner to give him up without a proven stud in return...but not veto worthy IMO.

No idea why people are saying this is a bad trade. I doubt he could have gotten any more value out of him. Certainly if the Henry owner is not a contender this is a trade that needs to be made now.

Furthermore unless there is collusion the trade should never be vetoed. If people are upset that they didn't offer a trade for Henry that's their own fault.

loss of value and not a trade i would make, but i don't think it's ridiculously bad, and nowhere near veto territory.

If you aren't a serious contender this year, you absolutely need to unload Henry. This isn't maximum value but it's really not bad at all for a rebuild. That 1st will be gold next season and Henry owner will be holding a rapidly declining asset.
