McLaurin vs. Chase

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

McLaurin vs. Chase

Postby wolves1 » Tue May 11, 2021 2:06 pm

12 team SF PPR 1-2QB, 2-5RB, 2-5WR, 1-4TE, D

Key pieces coming out of a dispersal (have some building to do for sure)....
QB: Jones
RB: Dobbins, Monty, Coleman, Michel, Vaughn
WR: Cooper, Pittman, Reagor, G Davis, Ruggs, Reynolds, Hamler
TE: Jonnu, Hurst

Have picks:
1.1 (will be Lawrence)
1.2 (leaning Chase or trade out)
1.4 (will likely be Lance or Fields)

So, I was offered:
McLaurin, 2.8, 3.8
for
1.2 pick (Chase as comparison)

I was also offered
Jacobs, 1.12
for
1.2 pick

Thoughts? How much more value does Chase (or 1.2) have than McLaurin? Given my team, do I take the upside rookie or go for an established upside player with other pieces?

Thanks

Chase will likely have a ton of value coming in post draft, as the top rookies are always valued super high. If you want to take any bust rate out, I could see making the McLaurin deal as he is already very solid. If you want to gamble on the huge upside, I would see holding too.

I would pass on the Jacobs deal.

So, I think the value is there on the Chase trade, but I am assuming the other owner is desparate for a QB and doesn't have a pick to land one. I would try to levarage to get him to move to the 1.04 pick or get a higher pick in return if he is set on 1.02. With only having Jones at QB, it is not unreasonable for him to think you are taking 3 QB's. Use that to your advantage.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

Instead of making this trade a comparison of McLaurin and Chase, I think you should view it as 2ndBestRookieQB and McLaurin. In SF, I think the Rookie QB wins this versus every time.

Because of that, the other owner has to offer a lot more than a borderline WR2/WR1+2.8+3.8. At a minimum, I'd need McLaurin+1st. Ideally, I'd want McLaurin+2021first and a second round pick either '21 or '22. The other owner has a chance to land a starting QB for the next decade. in SF, that's worth a lot more than McLaurin.

To be clear, I'm high on McLaurin and looking to get him whereever I can. But he's not nearly enough to land the 1.2 in SF.

Definitely would not move the 1.02 in SF and only get back McLaurin and some change.

I totally missed the SF format somehow...definitely pass and hold the 1.02.

I'd take this approach. I would much rather have 1.02 than McLaurin but if you could squeeze more out of him or use your 1.04 instead I think it could be a winner.
