Trade completed: Kelce+ for Hock/Lockett+

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade completed: Kelce+ for Hock/Lockett+

Postby M-Dub » Thu May 06, 2021 3:08 am

For team 2 in my sig. 1QB, no TEP.

Gave Kelce + 3.03, received Hockenson, Lockett and a 2022 2nd.

I consider myself a contender, which is normally not a situation where you’d be looking to sell Kelce. But my WR corps desperately needed an upgrade, and I’m extremely bullish on Hock this year and moving forward.

Thoughts on this deal?

Lockett certainly helps get another producer on your WR core week to week but he is a bit inconsistent. I would have held here.

I think it will be alright in time. You're losing the deal now but who knows how these TE look in 2 years. I'd think Hock will still be going strong while Kelce will be slowing down

Hock is a great piece, and I'm happy to have him. But Kelce is a cheat code, and I would have found it very hard to part with him without big overpay.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I figured I’d rather sell Kelce a year early than a year late. He turns 32 this year, and as amazing as he’s been, I don’t think he keeps it up much longer. I waited too long to sell Ertz for team 1, and it literally took only one down year for his value to completely tank. I realize Kelce is on a different level than even Ertz in his prime, but still, even elite studs lose value rapidly once their production starts falling off (see Jones, Julio). Plus, as I said, I’m very high on Hock, especially after the Lions didn’t really add anything of substance to their WR corps this offseason. I think 120+ targets is all but guaranteed this year, assuming he stays healthy.

I definitely agree that Lockett has a strong boom/bust component to his game, but it’s hard to argue with the end results. I’m hoping my four stud RBs can help mitigate his down weeks.
