Draft strategy?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Draft strategy?

Postby NFL123 » Wed May 05, 2021 5:05 pm

I have picks 1.07, 2.07, 2.08 and 2.10 upcoming but I am unsure on strategy. I have an aging team (team 1 in sig) and have no picks next year.

Here are my options

1) Go with each pick

2) Try to use one of my 2nd round picks (ideally 2.10) to move up from 1.07. I'm just not sure the jump from say 1.07 to 1.04 or 1.05 is worth it.

3) Use my 2.10 and say 2.08 to move up to the beginning of the 2nd round.

4) Try to use the 2.10 to get a 2nd rounder next year, ideally to a team who projects for an early 2nd.

My thoughts are that it's pretty much a consensus top 7, so the latter half comes down to personal preference, although I'm guessing it's more likely to be Waddle and Smith available at 6/7.

Then there are some good options between 8 and 16, including the 3 QBs.

After that, it seems pretty questionable. The problem for me is that I pick 19, 20 and 22 and its a bit in no man's land territory with a lot of dart throw types, so I probably should try to use the 2.10 to move up, but should I try to use it to move up from 1.07 or 2.07, due to the talent drop off. Or is using 2.10 to try and get a high 2nd round pick next year my best bet, given I have no picks?

Any help would be much appreciated and needed!

If you can package multiple picks to jump into the elite tier, that would be worth it. All the 2nds are just not as great as in years past. If you cant jump up in the 1st, BPA would be the way to go. Do you know if any owners are looking for multiple 2nds? Even a young upside asset for the 2nds may be the way to go if it's an option.

Id try and package all 2nds for a 1st next year...
Could also sell 1.07 for a 2022 1st and a 2nd this year.

Selling this years 2nd’s to move up is a solid strategy. Personally I’d be getting whatever I could for OBJ and every rb starting with Lindsay, Perine, etc. At some Point there’s the law of diminishing returns. The 1.07 should net you a solid prospect.

I would try to trade up based on how you break out prospect tiers. You can still get a good prospect at 1.07, but packaging a lottery ticket in the late second for an elite prospect makes sense IMO.
