OTC help: Sanders or Jones?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

OTC help: Sanders or Jones?

Postby Prison_Mike » Wed May 05, 2021 7:35 am

12tm | PPR | SuperFlex

Through 3 rounds, I have: Dak, Jefferson, Zeke
I’m now picking at 4.11 and then 5.02

I’m leaning either Sanders or Jones here.
Next pick is a tossup.

Best available:

Baker Mayfield
Aaron Rodgers
Matt Stafford
Tua

Aaron Jones
Miles Sanders
Davis Montgomery

Michael Thomas
Chris Godwin
Terry McLaurin

I do think a QB run has to be coming. So QB was definitely going to be one of these picks. Really think it should be both?

In my experience with SF leagues, the more QBs you have the better. Especially 12 teams and above. If your QB's are set then that allows you freedom over the rest of your roster without always needing to try and find a QB and having to eventually overpay the guy that has 5 starting QBs...lol. After a year, if the others haven't figured out how important QBs are, then you will just be that further ahead of everyone.

If you think Rodgers plays for another handful of years, he is the best pick here in SF. Stafford would likely be my next choice.

Since you picked zeke I assume you’re looking to build a contender. Rodgers and jones or Thomas would be my picks in that path.
In a vacuum/dynasty longevity approach I like baker or tua with one of the picks (or maybe both) and Godwin.

I think you have to walk away with at least 1 QB out of those 2 picks, if not 2. I’d go either Rodgers or Stafford (depends on how you view the situation with Rodgers) and for the other one, I’d actually go Jones or Thomas. Granted I don’t know much about SF though, so take my input with a grain of salt.

Somewhat. But my general approach to startup drafts is to have a good mix of both youth and contented pieces

I ended up going Sanders and Baker

(I don’t leave a lot of drafts without Sanders lol)

The guy after me went RB/RB (Jones/Monty) which I knew he would. So all of those QBs were still available

Godwin might still be available next round as people seem low on him right now

As others have said, you should for sure take another QB and probably two. QBs are the cheapest during a startup draft. Of course it hurts your potential to win right away since you're missing out on potential RB1/2s or WR1/2s but things change quickly in dynasty. Just pick the QB/QBs you like the most. Rodgers is interesting bc he helps you now and if he plays another 3+ years he will produce for you all those years still.

One comment mentioned that if you have 5 QBs you can make a trade with someone else who has just one or two and while I always agree with that, I've found myself in plenty of leagues lately where half the group thinks QBs are not that valuable and believe those who have them are the dumb ones. While they are wrong, as long as there are enough of them who think this way, they will never pay the true price for a QB. They end up trading with people who think the way they do and get QBs for cheap while you're stuck with 5 good QBs and no one wants to pay the fair price. I saw someone trade Wilson away for Chris Godwin bc they're backup QB was Tannehill to start the year and thought they didn't need Wilson and Tannehill in a SF dynasty... like WTF lol!

Bingo.

This has been the case in every SuperFlex league I've ever been a part of, which is why I ultimately went RB/QB here.

Case in point, the guy picking after at the 4.11/5.01 only had 1QB so far (Mahomes) and went RB/RB here.

The way the draft is falling, I DO think there is a QB run coming, but I also think there are plenty who will pass and allow me to snag another viable QB at the next turn

How are rookies being handled? I’d be considering them here if available

They’re in the draft

But most of the top guys were gone by this pick

Lawrence, Harris, Pitts, Fields, Lance, Chase, ETN, Wilson (in that order) were gone

Javonte was the only one left to consider at that spot for me but I went Sanders/Mayfield

Too me it comes down to what the owner of the picks on the wrap has / needs. If he already has 2 qb's I'm most likely going rb or wr here. If not then I'm looking to grab the best qb at 4.11.

There is value in stashing QBs, because they are usually never cheaper than during the startup. That said, I’ve noticed that anyone not valuing QBs during the startup needs a season or so to figure it out. They won’t usually trade for them until after they’ve suffered some losses by not having QBs, whether it’s from watching someone score starting two or losing the one they had to injury.
