Trading Kyler Murray in a SF league

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trading Kyler Murray in a SF league

Postby SteelersX6 » Thu Apr 22, 2021 6:02 pm

I am going into my first season in a 14 team super flex league and built my team through a 4 team dispersal draft. I have needs up and down my roster but am actually pretty solid at QB with Kyler Murray and Matt Stafford. However, I have another owner who was also part of this dispersal draft that has been pushing hard to acquire Murray. He has offered Daniel Jones, 2021 Pick 1.06 and a 2022 1st.

I'm not real anxious to deal Murray but think I may be able to persuade this owner to add something on top of what he has already offered (possibly a 2nd rounder or two). I'm wondering where others are with Murray's value in a SF league and where you all think it gets to the point where it would be too good not to pull the trigger. I saw a trade chart that puts Murray's SF value around two top 6 picks. That same trade chart gives Jones a mid-late 1st round value so this owner is essentially offering me the equivalent of three 1st rounders.

While Jones is a significant downgrade from Murray, he is young and does have a chance to get his career headed in the right direction. He is definitely a risk though and could fall off a cliff pretty quickly. Getting him would at least ensure I have two starting QBs in the short term and, I'm also thinking that at least one or two of those top 5 QBs in this year's rookie class would fall to me at 1.06. That would give me three viable QBs when all is said and done, and I would have the 2022 1st rounder in my back pocket (his team likely will finish in the bottom half of this 14 team league so that pick will likely be in the top 7). I currently have no 1st round picks this year because I did not get one in the dispersal draft or in 2022 because I traded it as part of a package to acquire Chris Godwin.

Any thoughts?

Pass. I'd need a better QB coming back than Danny Dimes

Not a chance. This one isn't even close. Murray is on the short list of SF Dynasty assets that someone will really have to overpay to get me to trade away.

Two very early 1sts and a better QB/asset than Jones. I dont see much reason to move Murray in this format.

Since this offer came in I actually received another offer. This one is a little more tempting but I'm still not certain.
Give: Murray
Get: Pick 1.02 and 1.04

The reason I am seriously considering it is because this is a TE premium league and I would be able to snag Pitts and a top 3 QB in the draft. My team is likely not going to be competitive this season, at least not to the point where I will be a serious contender for a championship, so I could wait until both my picks have a year or two to round into form. Travis Kelce was the top scoring non QB in the league and only a few QBs were higher so, having a top end TE gives you a big advantage. Now it's a risk assuming Pitts will be the next Kelce but everything I'm hearing says there's a good chance. There's also a risk thinking Murray will ever have a season as good as he did last year.

I am definitely going to pass on the first offer I mentioned in this post but this one is a little more tempting. Having Pitts and Fields/Wilson/Lance could be a pretty nice situation in a few years. This is a tough one.

Too much uncertainty here. The 1.02 could be as good as Murray but it's not likely. IF you had good odds on hitting with that pick, I'd love the deal and having 1.04 on top. but I'll pass

I'd still need more. Murray is a foundational piece and would need a big overpay to sell. Draft picks are nice, but still 50% gambles at best even in the 1st.

Those firsts aren't enough to make me downgrade from Murray to Danny. I need a better QB coming back and probably a young WR too since you're going to be in rebuild mode most likely if you make that trade.

Not a chance. Murray is what you hope one of the top QBs becomes and there is no guarantee that you pick the one that turns out to be that useful. And Pitts has a chance to be great but still...there is a lot of risk.

Murray is a foundational piece. The price on him should truly be insanely high.

Okay, dude is coming real hard now. I rejected both trades mentioned above and got another offer for Murray from the first owner. Says this is his last attempt.

Give: Kyler Murray, 2023 3rd
Get: Daniel Jones, Derek Carr, Michael Pittman, Pick 1.06, 2022 1st (likely early cause dude is really tearing it down for the future).

Thoughts???

Make that 1.06 turn into the 1.02 or 1.03 and you got a deal. Otherwise pass.

I'm not trading 6-8 years of Murray (top 5qb play) for 2 players with 2-4 years of mediocre to poor qb play, 2 lottery picks, and pittman.

I need that 1.06 to get me one of lawrence, fields, lance

Would probably need to take something out if you get that high of a pick, but yeah too many quarters for a dollar
