Time to move on from Keenan Allen?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Time to move on from Keenan Allen?

Postby dvpkwys » Fri Apr 16, 2021 6:50 am

I got Allen for very cheap last season, he helped me throughout the year for sure. I have good depth at WR (non PPR):

Adams, Godwin, Moore, Terry, Higgins, Boyd, Allen, Gab Davis, Gallup.

I have 12th overall, but am looking to get more second round picks, knowing my draft/league there will be good players sitting there. I have an owner interested in Allen. I feel he is undervalued always, but getting up in age, is now the time to move him? I would potentially be getting pick 15 and 17. I assume most will say that is too little, but being in a 2QB, IDP league, the players at those picks will be very good as I know 4-5 QBS will go in the top 15.
10 Team - NON PPR (5 Round Rookie Draft) - Start 2QB, 2RB, 4WR, 1TE, 1FLEX, 4DB, 4LB/DL/DB

Burrow/Howell (Murray, Geno)
Taylor/Swift (Sanders, Conner, Gibson, Miller, Spears Lenny)
Adams/Godwin/Higgins/McLaurin (DJ Moore, Hopkins, Tillman)
Kelce (Hockenson)
Budda/Holland/Blackmon/Minkah (Sydney Brown)
Bosa/Bernard/Okereke/EJones (Elliss)

I think 15 and 17 is way too cheap for Allen. You may have great WR, but no reason to sell for nothing

In a 12-teamer, 12+15 are something like 1.08. Not too bad of a price for Keenan in SF, imo, esp. this time of year. If you want to maximize return, you'll need to wait til the season starts.

x2 - Allen is always underrated. He is a mid 1st at least for me. Great WR in your lineup versus his market price.

Assuming team in your sig, which is stacked, I'd prefer to stick with Allen because you start 4 wr, and you are a solid title contender. I would hang onto him for now in case you need to trade for a rb at some point.

Allen i think will age like Fitz did...hes not a Big body or speed based WR, hes got great hands and footwork and makes great reads. i think hes got (no lie) 5-6 great years left...and 3 elite ones.

Your WRs are stacked and your team looks good otherwise: maybe look to trade a more appealing young talent (like mclaurin?) to upgrade your team in another area? I think trading away a WR is a good idea but I'm not sure it's Allen

I wouldn't sell Allen for a pair of 2nds, even in SF. Allen got his QB upgrade ad showed a connection, I think he's very solid for the next 3-4 years, so I'd rather hold.

for what i've seen lately, allen is finally getting some respect in trades (1st plus), so i wouldn't sell for 2 2nds. i also think he will age well.

Keenan turns 29 in a week so the value cliff is looming. The decline has already started which is why you are getting offers like this. I like the idea of selling in your spot. But I'd need more to move him.

He's worth a mid 1st to me right now, so that offer feels very light. If someone you like slides to the back of the first round I could see you moving him for a late 1st at that time, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to take 2 2nds for him.

I'm sure you could grab some mid 2nds if you floated out guys like Boyd or Gallup.

I bought Keenan Allen for basically two mid 2nds and a late 1st in value in my 16-team super flex league (Jared Goff, R. anderson, 2.05)

150+ target alpha receivers are PPR gold. I trust that offense, the organization and young QB.

He's the oldest player I have, but I think there is room for him more team builds than people think.

Yes age is a thing and a decline likely is coming, but I'm betting it will be a slow decline not a steep drop off. Keenan is the type of player that will give you 2-3 more elite seasons and 2-3 WR2 seasons more and continue to be useful late in his career (i.e. Larry Fitz as someone already stated.) The veteran mentality that his coaches speak so highly of him for and crisp play style just tells me he's going to be good at this for "awhile."
