Trade down from 1.03?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Which side would you prefer (12 Team, PPR, SF)?

Picks 15 and 21 don't cover the gap of the lost value between 1.03-1.06 for me. I'm not opposed to trading down since you're not targeting a QB, but the value has to be better than this for me to do it. Otherwise, if Etienne is your guy, I'd rather just take him at 1.03.

I'm really enjoying both watching the poll develop and even more significantly reading the additional insight from all of you.

I don't believe I could have gotten more value for the 1.03 at the moment for reasons I've already mentioned, but I believe had I held until the draft I could have potentially gained more from the same owner (he had traded back several times during the start up and accumulated a warchest of picks), had he not been able to trade up to the 1.01/1.02.

I wasn't willing to risk losing out on the additional value (also for reasons I've stated), but that might prove to be a mistake. Appreciate all of your feedback!

So I made the trade, I went down from the 1.03 to the 1.06. Hoping to pick up some side value, and potentially still get my man Etienne without badly reaching. Today was our draft, and a trade for the 1.01 changed the landscape enough that all four top QB prospects went off the board 1-4. Then Chase went off the board, and I was still forced to make a decision. Do I take the Back seems superior in most metrics? Or the one that I want? Dynasty is an easy family 🤣.

I think you should put the pick on the block considering many will highly covet getting to whoever they feel is the best RB. However I wouldn't want to move too far back (unless getting a vet you prefer). If you don't get a substantial return then I think you're safe to take ETN and not feel like you're reaching.

Trade back again, most people have Harris clearly above. My guess is you could trade back to 1.08 and land Etienne. Pitts and Harris should go ahead of him.

Yep, this... Heck, I wouldn't sleep on Javonte Williams, either, if a deal took you down to 1.9 and you missed out on Harris, Pitts, and Etienne

Re: Trade down from 1.03?

So I did have offers to move down from the 1.06. The one that seemed the best was for the 1.09, 2.08 & 2.12.

The problem with that, was that this league has relatively small rosters, And I'm already being forced to drop prospects I'd rather not. I stayed pat at the 1.06 and selected Harris. I'll make a post below to track the progression of the first trade for anyone interested.

A lot of the arguments people made against accepting the initial trade were sound. I took a gamble trading back and wasn't even paid all that handsomely for the risk. I appreciate all of your help, and while I'm very happy with the end result, it could easily have gone south.

Re: Trade down from 1.03?

Postby Eight7Seven » Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:29 pm

Update:
I still have Najee Harris and Terrence Marshall from this trade. I traded Kenneth Gainwell and my 2022 second (which ended up being 2.08) for TJ Hockenson early last season. The 2022 second ended up being the 2.01, which I traded back from again reacquiring the 2.08 and a future second as I didn't like the value on the board. The top available prospects on my big board had lower ADP's then several others still out there.

So the trade down now looks like this.

Traded the 2020 1.03 and Acquired

2020 1.06 Najee Harris
2020 2.05 Terrace Marshall
TJ Hockenson
2022: 2.08 Malik Willis
2023 2nd round pick

I typically have significantly different opinions than my league mates and others on these boards in terms of prospect evaluations. So trading back is something I do quite frequently, and sometimes it works amazing.

I did get a little cute with the 2.01 here. The top player on my board when I came on the clock was Alec Pierce. I was seeing him go in the late second in most posted 12 team superflex drafts, so I traded back to the 2.08 with the hopes that I could get him at 2.04, 2.07 or even the 2.08 that I'd just acquired. He went at 2.02 😂. Still really liking what will be available to me at 2.08 though so I'm happy with the trade. The player I had 2nd, 4th and 5th on my board are still there even after five selections. I anticipate getting the player I would have taken at 2.04 (which I also traded 😆) with it.
