Would You Offer This Trade? Is It a Good Offer?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Would You Offer This Trade? Is It a Good Offer?

Postby Gatorguy7275 » Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:43 am

Hey everyone, I have the 2021 1.02, 1.04, 1.10, 3.02 & 3.06 in our 10 team 1 QB .5 PPR league. Yes, it's vanilla, but we try. I'm considering offering the following trade: ME: Diontae Johnson, 1.10 & 3.06 for HIM: 2021 1.06 & 2.05. Trade Analyzer indicates this is about a 10% overpay but I want to move up & picks are more valuable right now so it's OK to me.

RATIONALE: If Harris is 1.01, I take Chase; if Chase goes 1.01, I take Harris. I want the 1.06 to target Pitts. I could take him at 1.04, but that seems a little early & prevents me from taking either one of the other 3 top RBs or top 4 WRs. But I'm certain he won't be there at 1.10.
I also think that of the players I'd target at 1.10, like T Marshall, Gainwell, E Moore, Toney or M Carter, that at least 1 or 2 of them will still be there at 2.05.

Diontae would be a significant loss, but I have to give value to get it. Also, Mr. 1.06 needs WR depth & DJ would slot in immediately as his 3rd best WR. He also has TEs M Andrews & J Smith, so might not be looking so hard at Pitts.

What do you think? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance & be safe out there!

QB: L Jackson, Purdy
RB: J Taylor, A Gibson, B Hall, McKinnon, K Hunt, J McLaughlin
WR: Addison, Aiyuk, Boyd, Chase, Dell, Gallup, Godwin, E Moore, Shaheed
TE: Pitts, Engram,

Seems like more than a 10% overpay to me but it's not terrible and I don't think it's a big deal to go for it. The 1.06 is always in the running for being worth more than the 1.06 since you never know what someone else will do. Some idiot always take a guy like Trevor in the top 3 even in a 8 man league and you end up with what is essentially the 1.05

I think you are giving too much in the 1.06 deal to jump up a few spots. Where we sit right now, I would hold and see how the draft falls. I know he is an extremely hot name, but I would not give Johnson + the 1.10 for Pitts. If Pitts is your guy, I totally understand going all in as dynasty is supposed to be fun, but I think its steep and risky. I always like to point out when someone is going after their guy and I don't agree entirely, I took Jeudy at the 1.01 last year and don't regret it, so I certainly get it!

I have two concerns, 1, that is giving up a lot for 4 spots. Also, trading to get a pick to draft a specific player has huge risk. Do you really want to overpay to move up and watch Pitts get picked at 1.04?

I really like DJ but with Big Ben seemingly in his last year who is throwing him the ball after this year?? So I don't think that it is a crazy price to pay to move up, but is it too much to move up 4 sopts?? Who will potentially be there at 6 and 10 and what is the difference between the two? I may have a specific player targeted at 6, when it gets to your pick at 4 and you know who your picking and 2 players are there that you want then I'd look to make a draft day deal.

I'm not a huge Johnson fan, but I feel like its a bit too much to give up 4 spots in order to take a specific guy. If the 1.06 is OTC and your guy is there, then maybe I'd do it.

My thinking was that since I have the 1.02 (either Harris or Chase), I'd pick Pitts with the 1.04 & use the 1.06 to take the next BPA. If I got Harris @ 1.02, I'd take a WR & if I got Chase @1.02, I'd take a RB if either Etienne or Williams were still available.

Your team do you, but this is a pretty bad trade value wise.

Realize you are not going BPA with this strategy and instead trying to draft to fill positions. Just pointing out what most people consider a flaw to your general draft strategy. It's generally accepted it's okay to come away with any positions as long as they are your BPA. So 3 rbs, 3 wrs, 1 TE and 2 wrs, etc. Its all fine. Avoid drafting for a positional need.

I could say, as several "experts" have, that Pitts arguably is the BPA at 1.04 or 1.06. Taking the BPA while also filling a positional need is an added benefit. Whether we trust those experts is a different question altogether, but I trust my eyes & I think Pitts is more a hybrid WR/TE, than a traditional TE, even though he has that label.
I do agree that I'm proposing an overpay, so I will try not to do that.
