Buy low 2nd / 3rd year players

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Buy low 2nd / 3rd year players

Postby dblj1199 » Thu Apr 08, 2021 7:04 am

The 2021 draft is fast approaching and I'm looking backwards. Who disappointed in 2020 and are you expecting to breakout in 2021? Any buy low type players? A couple for me.

Aiyuk- he played well, but was tweaked a bit and the team was all injured. A possible off season and consistent qb play he could really take off this year ( I'm also a biased 49ers fan)
Cephus- he played sparingly last season, but the top two wr's are gone giving him a big opportunity this season
TJ Hock- another Detroit receiver, see above, if he stays healthy he could really break out, has a former te as head coach
Snell Jr- still a lot could change in Pitt, but if they don't draft another rb or sign a FA he could be in for a big increase in touches

Who are you thinking???
2015, 2017, 2022 Champ.
10 team, 6 pt all td, ppr, 1.5 te ppr. 30 man roster QB, SF, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, Flex (r/w/t), K, 3 IDP

Qb- Mahomes, Prudy, Baker
RB- S Barkley, Pollard, B Hall, K Herbert, D Foreman, R Johnson, Zeke, J Robinson, Z White, J Wilson(i.r.), J McKinnon, J Mason, J Hill
WR- J Jefferson, Deebo, DJ Moore, OBJ, S Moore, J Jennings, C Austin, Trey Palmer
TE- Andrews, Higbee, Dulchich, Ferguson, D Washington
IDP(3)- P Queen,D Perryman, J Jewell, J Campbell, N Dean (i.r.)
K- E McPherson, Butker

Not sure aiyuk and hock are really buy lows. Love aiyuk but he broke out and won’t be cheap.

Parris Campbell is someone im targeting, if he can ever stay healthy he has a shot. Cheap enough I’m taking the risk.

Aiyuk and Hock will probably be expensive, so I don't see them as great buy lows right now.

Cephus is a good one if you're looking to go bargain shopping. I've scooped him up in a couple places myself. Tyler Johnson is another cheap option that I think could have some appeal if Tampa can't come to terms with AB.

Guys like Reagor, Mims, Ruggs & Shenault might be available for an early-mid 2nd at this time of year in 1QB formats. Coming off an up and down year, if you can get Jeudy for a late 1st I'd be all over that.

yep agree with this. definitely not getting Aiyuk or Hock at bargin prices, aiyuk owners in my leagues want a 1st and hock is about the same maybe a early 2nd

That's interesting that Hock may go for an early 2nd. If I needed a TE (which most people do these days given the state of the position lol) I'd jump on that and feel good about it. Even a late 1st in 1QB would be a good price for him IMO.

Based on some of the deals I have seen on here throughout the offseason, I would be asking the Jeudy owner for a price check. I also think Ruggs III is worth and ask although I'm not sure he will hit at the NFL level but it all comes down to cost. Gallup is worth an ask and Reynolds is probably dirt cheap. Gallup has nice long term upside and Reynolds will finally get a shot to be a #2 on a team.

I'd throw Irv Smith's name out there as well. Great upside TE2 to add to your roster if you can get him for a Mid-late 2nd.

My favorite buy lows this offseason have been Cephus and Irv Smith. I pretty much went after both of these guys all around and was able to get them on the cheap pretty much anywhere I wanted to. Some guys from the 2020 class that I would think you may be able to go after at least for less than their 2020 draft price would be Jeudy, Ruggs, Reagor, and Mims.

The main reason I added TJ is he's been banged up a bit and he lost Stafford. Thinking some may be down on him with Goff at qb and a potential of another qb drafted in the 1st. You may be able to talk the owner into selling him cheaper. Even as I said I think with both their starting wr's gone both TJH and Cephus should see a big uptick in targets.

Smith Jr would be a great one to grab depending on price, good call. I have tried for two years now but his value is out of control in my league...as are most values though

If a buy low window has opened on Hock in your league 100% take advantage. Even if they draft a WR early there will still be a ton of targets available in that offense this year.

I'd like to expand on Campbell. I'll preface that I'm a Colts fan and I own Campbell already. But, Indy still needs a WR even after resigning T.Y. So, whenever someone talks about Indy, they talk about T.Y., Pittman, and whoever is coming in in the future. They don't talk about Campbell. So, he should be dirt cheap right now. But, he will be their slot receiver if he can stay healthy. I realize that's a big if, but again, he should be dirt cheap. Reich has always been the type of coach that wants his QBs to get the ball out fast. Especially after seeing Luck's career get ruined from taking hits. He's obviously aware of Wentz' injury history. He's going to want Wentz to hand off and throw fast. Give me the quick slot receiver working underneath in this offense. If the Colts draft a WR, I'm willing to bet it'll be an outside receiver to replace Hilton after this season. The slot should belong to Campbell.
