49ers RB situation

49ers RB situation

Postby Horn1 » Sat Mar 27, 2021 12:52 pm

Wilson owner here.

49er's depth chart:

Raheem Mostert...hurt most of last year...age 29
Jeffery Wilson...ended the season strong
Jamycal Hasty...39 carries last year
Austin Walter...who?

Wtf?

Every mock draft either has the 49ers drafting Rb mid to late...or not even at all.

Tell me what I'm missing here. Rb's are pretty important to that SF offense...seems like RB is a pretty big draft need.

As a Wilson owner, even if they draft someone late, I'm feeling pretty good about Wilson chances next year with continuing his strong end of season finish.

Rbs might be an important part of the offense but the coaching staff knows that the offense makes the rb and not the other way around. Pretty much anyone who's stepped into a role 2hen healthy put up fantastic numbers for them

I think Wilson filled in well when given more touches late in the year. Drafting an RB is a potential option for San Francisco, but RB seems like a filler position for some teams and they make it work with what's on the roster. I would like to see what Wilson can do as a borderline workhorse.

People seem to have forgotten how good Mostert has looked the last two years when healthy. I know he’s older but very low mileage. I think you’ll see a combination of Mostert and Wilson with an edge to Mostert in touches.

Agreed, but Mostert had ankle issues all season...his adp is RB30's while Wilson is in the 50's.

Mostert is someone we should be fading. I'll gobble up Wilson stock in late round regular leagues. I'll be interested in seeing if the 49er's can steal a guy like Khalil Herbert later in the draft.

I would imagine they’ll draft someone late to throw I to the mix, but given Mostert’s injuries, I’d imagine Wilson would have the edge here to this point.

This is so true. Kyle could take an UDFA this year and make him a fantasy star.

Not paying much of anything for these guys in San Fran. I'm also not selling Wilson for the offers I'm getting- 3rds and later in a deep SF league.

The system there can open lanes for anyone. I give Wilson the edge over Mostert because Mostert is made of glass, but its likely just a repeat of last season. Whoever is healthy for a game gets plugged in and can be fantasy relevant.

49ers probably won't take a RB. That's not their MO. in 2017, Shanahan really wanted Joe Williams even though he would've likely been UDFA so Lynch took him in round 4. Haven't drafted a RB since Williams busted. Their RB coach, Bobby Turner, has a history of working with low draft capital RB/UDFA RBs and knows who fits the system.
They really liked Hasty last pre-season. Ended up keeping him over Salvon Ahmed, who had a couple of games for the Dolphins.
If the 49ers do take a RB in the draft, he is someone I would definitely pay attention to, but I think they are content with Mostert, Wilson, Hasty and happy to add UDFA for depth/special teams.

I think whatever you pay is for part of a season or a NE situation where each week a different back performs. So if I'm buying I'm paying as if they are a zero RB candidate because none of them are likely going to be a dependable weekly start barring multiple injuries.

I don't see the 49ers drafting a rb this year unless someone falls in their lap. Mostert looked great, but suffered a high ankle sprain and rushed back and did the same thing again, so can he stay healthy??? Wilson looked good, but also was hurt. I'd say Mostert will be the lead rb again until he is tweaked or Wilson simply has a better game, Shanahan always will ride the hot hand. Ideally the 49ers rb is a flex play or a low end #2 rb on a roster. I'm hoping for a hot start from Mostert and then I'm looking to move on from him.
