Chris Carson Value

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Chris Carson Value

Postby dvpkwys » Wed Mar 24, 2021 8:00 am

I'm looking to acquire a 3rd RB. Chris Carson is available, obviously signing back in Seattle makes things a little easier. He will be 27 in September, and has battled some injuries, but when playing seems to be effective. I'm trying to gauge what fair offer would be to send out. Has anyone dealt him or acquired him recently?

I'm guessing a late 1st would be his price now that he has stayed in Seattle. His age and injury history hurt his long term value, but I doubt he is available for less than a late 1st.

Carson is one of the tough ones to gauge. Carson owners often seem to want more than anyone would be willing to give to part with him. I don't mean for that to sound critical, just that I think most view him as more valuable on-roster verses what he would net in a trade. Another guy that comes to mind like this is Robert Woods, albeit maybe to a lesser extent given the RB premium that could be tacked to Carson. I think he's a buy for a late 1st-early 2nd, but could actually see his owner wanting more in non-PPR, 1QB.

Since this is for a 10-team league, start with a mid-2nd and see what response you get.

Non/PPR boosts his value a bit relative to other RBs so I'd consider an early 2nd in 10 team.

TEAM 2: 12 team league. 0.1 ppc 0.5 ppr. TE 1 ppr

RBs- Javonte,Akers, ETN,Gore,Dallas
WRs- McClaurin,DJM,Godwin,Diontae,MarquiseBr, Mooney,Van Jefferson,Collins,Atwell

TEAM 3: 12 team league. 0.5 ppr, 0.5/fd

Huh? Mid-1st in 10-team league is 1.05. I'd want at least two Carsons for that

While I wouldn't go as far as 1.05 for him, RBs are king in that format, especially ones that score touchdowns (Carson has 9 TDs in each of the last 3 years) so it definitely gives his value a big boost.

The tough thing about picks in that format is the RBs go off the board ASAP and the WRs absolutely have to turn into elite uber studs to be worth anything. Getting a DJ Moore type player out of the pick is worth very little.

I have a similar format to yours (kind of) and I own Carson. If you haven't owned him you probably don't realize how good he is when he plays. In this format, he is very consistent and can produce some good games. For a contending team he is worth a mid 1st this year IMO. With the new contract I feel the team is committing to him, even through an injury.
If someone was trying to get him from me, I would be tempted by a young WR with some proven potential and theoretical upside...a late first wouldn't do it for me.
