Waller Value?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Waller Value?

Postby TheGunSlinger » Wed Mar 10, 2021 4:26 pm

12tm SF/TE premium league. Took over an orphan team.
Massive rebuild and a long way to go. My biggest trade chip is Waller. What is his value in a TE premium league? My hope was to target a young WR. Would moving him for a Tee Higgins or Claypool be worth it. Any help would be great as this is my first rodeo with a TE premium league.

I think Waller is in that elite tier. Based on age and compared to Kelce, he should be close in value. I'd put him at about two future 1sts.

Or the 1.2 - 1.3 this year.

Thanks. I wish the offers coming in were like this. Fingers crossed the offers get better

You'll only get offers like that coming from a contender. And you'll likely see it come in the form of assets equaling the two future 1sts rather than two actual 1sts. Something like a '22 1st, and 2nd, and a player like Ertz.

Back end of an early 1st seems fair in premium or equivalent value. A later 1st + a young solid piece might be more helpful for a long rebuild though.

What is the premium? In heavy TEP, I will put Waller on a par with someone like Davante and will ask for similar return. But it is not uncommon for people in such leagues to undervalue TE talent, even after losing badly to Kittle or Kelce teams. One problem is that there are no dynasty rankings out there that are calibrated for TEP. The calculators that are available will tell people that Waller is equal to James Robinson, and that's what they'll offer (or less).

How steep is the TE prem? This will help give a more accurate answer. If we’re talking PPR with 1.5 for TEs, I’d say an early 1st. If it’s 2.0 for TEs, I’d have him in the same tier as similarly aged top WRs (somewhere between Adams and Hopkins-Thomas types), so I’d want an early 1st and a mid 1st or similar value.

While this is true, that narrative can be changed by looking at the league’s scoring each year. You should be able to convince someone that he is top-10 in the league and will be for a few years yet. Maybe they have to see him doing it again during the season before you get fair value.
