Buy RB1 to compete or build through draft?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Buy RB1 to compete or build through draft?

Postby TTHTD » Sun Mar 07, 2021 11:10 am

12 Team PPR SF TE Premium QB/ 2RB/ 2WR/ TE/ SuperFlex / 2 Flex
QB: Jackson, Allen, Herbert
RB: RoJo, Dillon, Founette, McKissic, Wilson, Hasty, Kelley, Eno, R.Smith
WR: Jefferson, Lamb, Moore, Sutton, Ruggs, Hollywood Brown, Washington, Duvernay, Myers
TE: Henry, L.Thomas, Ebron, Burton, Herndon, Firkser, I.Thomas

2021: 1.02, 1.10, 2.13* bonus pick, 3.02, 3.12, 4.02
2022: 1, 1, 2, 3, 4

My team really came on strong at the end of the season so I am wanting to push to compete soon. I feel like I am an RB1 away from being a top contender for years to come but don't want to sell any of my major pieces or QBs and sacrifice my team's longevity to get one. I do have a lot of draft capital though... wondering do I draft BPA or try to acquire an RB1 like Barkley or up an comer like Swift.

You have a promising team; but I won't be quite so sure that you're one piece away from being a contender "for years to come." In a 12-teamer, I want to see 2 solid RBs added to this group + an upgrade at TE, given the premium.

I really like your young build, but I would not force a deal for a RB. See how you look coming out of the draft, have patience and stay the course, keep building and adding. Jones and Dillon could be enough anyway. Fun build here!

Gotta give something of value to get something of value.
On my asset value continuum, RB1 comes right after QB1 so your best (and cheapest) bet is to get your RB1 through the draft. You can always price-check on RBs of interest to see if there are any deals to be had but I find most people have RBs as their highest value assets.

I’d go BPA. No need to force anything as you have a very nice squad going here. I would just keep building it up for the time being.

Need more then just a RB1 in my opinion. But have the start of a very nice build going on.

I wouldn't mortgage anything just yet.

If you can get Barkley for 1.2 do it. I wouldn’t add a lot on top but that might be a good start

If the goal is not to sacrifice your build to nab a RB1, I'd just stand pat and go RB at 1.02

Keep drafting and building as you are. You've got a good foundation for the team, but I wouldn't be giving up a lot to add that one piece at RB. Though I don't mind punintended's suggestion of Barkley for the 1.02 if he's someone you're interested in and that pick can get a deal done.
