Bad Trade - But How Bad?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Bad Trade - But How Bad?

Postby Peepyopee » Mon Jan 11, 2021 8:31 am

Trade went down last night. League is mixed feelings on it and we typically do not interfere with trades. The guy getting Kyler is known for terrible trades, and this is just another in a long list (he traded 1.05 for Mason Rudolph last season).

League: 12 Teams, 1QB, .5 PPR
Give: 1.07, 1.11, 3.02, 2022 1st (likely top 3).
Get: Kyler Murray

The guy getting the picks was runner up this season. The guy getting Kyler got 11th.
It just seem illogical. his justification is that he now has a Franchise QB and those are hard to find (he also rosters Jimmy G, Brees, Taysom, Rudolph, Haskins (traded a 1st for him), and Tua T.).
League Started in 2018
12 Team, .5 PPR, 25 roster: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE(1.5 PPR), 1 FLEX (WR/RB)
QB: Deshaun Watson, Matt Stafford, Teddy Bridgewater
RB:Austin Ekeler, Kareem Hunt, Cam Akers, Jamaal Williams, Melvin Gordon, Joshua Kelley, DeeJay Dallas, Salvon Ahmed, Trayveon Williams, Xavier Jones, Darrell Williams
WR: Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, DJ Moore, Courtland Sutton, Chase Claypool, Michael Gallup, Brashad Perriman, Byron Pringle, Auden Tate, Amari Rogers, Dyami Brown, Anthony Schwartz
TE: Jonnu Smith, Chris Herndon, Dawson Knox, Harrison Bryant, Pat Freiermuth, Jacob Hollister

Picks:
2022: 1st x2, 2nd
2023: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

sounds like he's really got a thing or QBs and a propensity to overpay. if he's already paid 1sts for guys like Rudolph and Haskins, then paying multiple firsts for a guy like Murray seems inline

at least he spreads it around the league

Bad trade but I wouldn't step in. Kyler for 3 firsts in one QB is definitely a huge overpay especially with 6 other QBs on the roster. But if he keeps paying his entry fee then I wouldn't step in unless you suspect collusion. This just seems like a typical overpay for a QB. I will say, I am against 99.999% of vetoes.

I really hope this is SF. If not, It's beyond bad ha ha. I'm guessing it has to be SF based on the Rudolph deal too. SF, it's a slight overpay too but not nearly as bad.

I think he got fleeced in 1QB, but his history of bad trades makes this one kinda par for the course. I'd let it go, and then try to make some deals with him myself.

Those are both really awful trades than. Yikes. Sometimes really wanting a player on your team and getting them at all costs can really mess up a build for a long time. As far as the league goes, if two people agree on a trade and it is not over the top horrendous, it is what it is and its just a bad trade for one team.

The guy overpaid but not close to enough to be upset or demand it be reversed.

I'd keep offering him QBs in the future.

I’d really encourage him to leave the league and find something else to do, and try and replace him with someone else.

In a 1QB I’d have it as an overpay but whatever without the 2022 1st. That pick makes it a slaughter IMO. Sounds like it was just another in an ongoing pattern though, so not sure why anyone would be that surprised by it.

It's bad. No two ways about it.

But it doesn't strike me as something that needs to be vetoed or anything. Just chime in and ridicule the owner giving up 3 1sts for a QB in a 1QB league.

x2
He's damaging the league as a whole. Making other teams significantly better while making these lopsided trades, and dragging his team down beyond repair; Good luck finding a replacement for his orphan with him trading a way multiple future 1sts for QBs

If this was a one time trade with no evidence of collusion, there'd be nothing to discuss. But with his history and likelihood that it continues, I think he needs to go

At the very least, offer him some resources (trade calculators, forums like this, etc). He's either new to this or just bad at it. If he's going to remain in your league, give him the tools not to damage it further

Agree with the assessment about with/without the '22 1st.
As commish, I'd allow the borderline fair/bad trade without the 2022 1st. With that pick in, I'd want to veto.

I am with the encourage him to move on side of this. Unless this is a buddies league for fun someone make trades that badly is going to skew the league violently to anyone willing to abuse his ignorance.
