Which WR to buy for contending team next season?

So I missed the playoffs this year in my dynasty league. To give context on the league, it’s 10 teams, 1QB, non PPR, start 1QB, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1 TE, 1 FLEX. It’s a very competitive league as the two bottom teams are by pretty far the two worst teams in the league while the elite talent is essentially all spread throughout the best 8 teams. So, while I believe I have a pretty strong team, I have not made the playoffs the last couple of years, in large part due to Saquon not staying healthy. I’ll list all relevant players on my roster:

QB: Mahomes, Dak

RB: Saquon, Chubb, JT, Gallman, Duke Johnson, Perine

WR: Julio, Woods, Chark, Hamler, Gabe Davis, Sterling Shepard, Lazard, Emmanuel Sanders, Alshon Jeffrey, Tyler Johnson

TE: Hock, Goedert, Henry, Dissly

Picks:

2021: 2.01, 2.02, 2.06

All of 2022 + 2023 picks

With Julio being 31 and struggling to stay healthy this season, I’m not sure I’ll be able to count on him as a WR1 going forward which leaves me a little weak in terms of top heavy talent at WR. Which WR would you go after for my team? With a core of Mahomes, Saquon, Chubb and JT, I think should be able to be a serious contender for at least the next 5+ years so I’d like someone who is at least relatively young. Do I go after a guy who is in their prime now like Diggs, Hopkins or ARob? Or someone who is still very young but will cost a bit more like DK, AJ Brown or McLaurin?

It all comes down to price. I would ask for a price check on a handful on wr's you are interested in and go from there. Some owners are lower or more willing to deal, so you may have a great price option out there.

Yea you can name WRs possibilities all day long but until you find someone open to trade and the price it is tough to determine value. All those guys are going to cost you and you don't have any 2021 picks, so any of those guys are going to cost ya a top player also...

My advice would be to wait until close to draft time. Older players will see their values fall as the hype for rookies goes off the charts.

You definitely need upgrades at WR, but largely good everywhere else. I would look to secure 2 top WR options (top 15ish). Preference obviously on young guys like brown, dk, jj, lamb, aiyuk, but ask about the vets too.

Easier said than done. No one on that roster outside of Maholmes, Saquan, Chubb or JT will net anything close to a top 15 WR nevermind a young premier one. Especially with no picks to include. You are going to have to cough up one of those backs to get one if you want one.

I agree with hiteck22 I don't think you can afford an AJ Brown/DK or a Hopkins with what ya got. What you can probably do is score a Tyler Lockett / Marvin Jones. Much like Robert Woods these guys are nearly always dirt cheap but very solid options. They also have solid floors and should give you a couple very competitive years to find a young stud of your own in a draft/signing or work a trade.

I think ARob is a great buy right now and tends to be undervalued

After him...unless you want to start offloading picks at a high rate I don't think you have enough to get any of the listed guys

I would target some WRs who have had their stock cut for various reasons but could easily return top 20 value--someone like Sutton--or slept on veterans (Jones and Lockett are good choices as listed earlier)

I'd shop a pick on draft day, a TE and maybe Dak if there is a QB needy team

Godwin and DJM seem like good, young buy-low options. I like the previous suggestions of ARob and Sutton too. As other have said, though, it’s gonna be hard to get a high-end WR without giving up one of those three RBs or Mahomes.

For a cheaper option, since you already have Chark, maybe check with the Shenault owner and see if you could get him for the 2.06. After the surprise Jets win last week, the Jags are the frontrunners in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. You’ve gotta figure he turns one of Chark or Shenault into an every week starter, and maybe even both of them.

I think your best bet is to look at older WR's that could help next year...and draft WR's heavily in the 2nd round and try to hit on one......2nd rounders in last years draft in my 10 team included, higgins, AiYuk, Ruggs Claypool.....3rd rounders Shenault, claypool....

So you can find WR's outside the first round....

Keenan Allen: routinely undervalued, a little less good in non-PPR. Tied to Herbert for foreseeable future.

A Rob: again routinely undervalued. Has had terrible qb play for his entire career, could be looking to be on a winning team (ie good qb)

Juju: worth looking at. A young wr who is still good. A little more of a ppr wr, but his year is leaving a sour taste in everyone's mouth. He is a free agent next year and while Pitt doesn't tend to pay free agents, I could certainly see them franchising him for 1 year if johnson continues to have his dropping issues.

RBs: you're in a non ppr with 3 starting qbs. I would look at the cost to acquire more of them. It's going to be expensive but it's more beneficial to a contending team than a wr.

This is what I thought too. Brady & the passing game have been off this year, but if they have a full off-season, they may be huge next year.
