Gamble trade

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gamble trade

Postby dd041496 » Tue Nov 24, 2020 7:53 am

I gambled a little on this one. But I reached out to the leader of the other division (2 division league). He’s currently up 1 game on the rest of his division but his team is weak overall and he’s had a lot of lucky weeks. With that being said, his pick at this point, because we have a “double week” this week could end up being as early as pick 1. Things would have to workout perfectly for that obviously.

Here’s my trade.

I traded my Devante Parker, Salvon Ahmed, and my first (I locked up first round bye so anywhere between 9-12)

For his first round pick.

I feel I should be excited about it because I don’t believe in Parker or Ahmed, but is it too risky...?

Just for reference, his roster looks like this

Matt Ryan
Bell
Gallman
M Brown
Hill
Thomas
12 team league, 0.5 ppr
1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, K, DEF
QB- Burrow, Watson
RB- Kamara, Jacobs, Gibbs, K Williams, Gibson, CEH
WR- Jefferson, Hill, Godwin, M Brown, Collins
TE- Kelce, Schultz

Practice squad notables:
J Addison
Puka Nacua
M Mayer

Definitely a gamble but since you'll contend even without those 2, I like it.

It all depends on where the pick lands, a top 5 is a great deal.

I made a similar deal two weeks ago. I traded away Antonio Brown and my first (9-0 at the time, now 11-0) for the 1st of what I saw as a fading playoff team (was 5-4 but has won their last two). As a perennial contender, the chance at a high pick is so small without giving up the farm, I figure it is worth it. Even if you move up one tier of rookies it could be a massive difference and would likely cost you a lot more close to the draft.

I felt I would never play either of them and I wanted to gamble a little since I usually pick a little later in the drafts. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t losing it lol

What is the worst the pick could turn out? Could it theoretically end up worse than your pick? Unless the pick is only 1-2 spots above yours (or worse than yours) then I'd consider the trade fair/good with the upside of it being great if it cracks the top 5.

Yeah, theoretically it could end up being a better pick than mine or even a worse pick than mine. Like you said, the upside is what was enticing. And something I decided to gamble on late in the season with a roster that was set for my starters.

This ended up being

Parker, Ahmed and the 12th overall pick for the 7th overall pick.

Is this a good move looking back? I feel I won even by jumping up a tier of rookies!
