Team A, I have Hopkins. Falling madly in love with AJ Brown and tempted to reach out with Nuk.
It’s a contract league, so it’s worth noting that Nuk is substantially more expensive than AJB in terms of salary cap and it would free up significant cap space to sign other players. The guy who has AJB is kind of a “big name guy” so he may not care as much about that. If I don’t trade, I should still have room to retain him on an extension, though, so the format is a factor, but not a life or death one.
What’s the gap between the two assets at this point, IYO? Should I not be bothering as a 6-1 contender?

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
I think it would be a good move to ask for AJB and a late first for Hopkins and see what happens. AJB has played unreal the last three weeks so it might be a tough sell. I love AJB too and recently moved Hopkins

I'm not sure I'd add to AJB to get Hopkins at this point...very impressive rookie year and in the games he's been healthy this year he's posted 20+ points.

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
AJB will be worth more than Nuk by season’s end. The contract element only makes the value gap wider to favor AJB more. If the AJB owner is smart he wouldn’t add for Nuk. I’d try to do the trade straight up now while it’s still feasible

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
Fair or unfair, I don't think any Brown owner is adding to him to get Hopkins and/or moving him for Hopkins. Hopkins is a beast, but based on age and how Brown has come out so far this year, a straight deal is probably your only hope.
Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
The salary attached to this could make it a problem. If I have a young stud who is much cheaper I'd need a big return to trade him away for a older wr who costs a ton more money. Without knowing his roster I'd say it would take at least Higgins on top to make me think about it.

If I still had AJB, I wouldn’t be adding anything to him for Hopkins. I’d say the best thing to hope for here is a straight swap.

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
Okay, kinda what I thought you all might say. I'm hoping that because this guy is not quite as "dynasty-brained" as people posting on a dynasty message board, I might be able to work something out, but he's not responded yet.
Not that the guy's an idiot, just, you know, some people still live more in the here and now and cherish names they know best, even in dynasty. He tends to be one of those, so we'll see. Mostly just wanted validation that I wasn't crazy for looking into it.

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
As an AJB "owner", I'd want a first on top, at least to give him up for Hopkins. It's not "fair", but I'm to moving off a 23 year old who produced similar points per game for a 28 year old. Losing 5 years of prime isn't something I'd be interested in, unless I'm getting something substantial, on top.
Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
I missed the contract point earlier. No freaking way I'm moving AJB for Nuk in a straight up deal where AJB's contract is significantly cheaper than Nuks. I'm not even sure what you'd have to add but it would probably have to be a lot (like an early first). Value contracts win those leagues.
That's me though. If this guy loves big, established names maybe you can get it done. But from a pure value standpoint I think this is very easily AJB (and his substantially smaller contact).

It completely depends on the contracts. If AJB is significantly less expensive than Nuk, its likely you'll have to add to Nuk to get AJB.

Re: Gap between AJB and Hopkins?
Agree with this. I think a lot of the respondents don’t play in salary cap/contract leagues. I’ve only been in one for a year and a half and I’m still wrapping my head around some of the nuances, but it’s pretty clear that having cap space is a huge benefit, and having players on salaries well below “market value” is a huge advantage. If you could provide the specific salaries and contract lengths for both players, it’d be easier to determine what you’d need to add to Nuk, but just based on your comment that it’s a significant difference, it’s probably gonna take a significant piece. Good luck!hoos89 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:28 pmI missed the contract point earlier.
