Herbert Trade

A guy in my league who has Newton, Garoppolo, and Winston as his QBs approached me just now asking if I would trade Wentz for his 2021 2nd rd pick.

With Wentz's value being as low as its ever been and in my opinion as low as it will go anytime in the next few years since all of his weapons are currently hurt and he has been playing better of late, I countered asking if he would do his 2021 1st rd pick for Wentz and my 2021 2nd rd pick.

He countered back saying he would do Herbert and my 2021 2nd rd pick for his 2021 1st rd pick.

A few details, it is a 1 QB league, I already have Mahomes (see signature below), I currently have two 2021 2nd rd picks and my 2nd rd pick will likely be a late 2nd as I'm now 7-0 this season, and the guy's 2021 1st rd pick will likely be a top 4 pick or at absolute worst top 6 pick.

Is this an easy accept?

He just went for Evans and a 2nd in my 1 qb league. However qbs are valued like it's SF.

Value is on the pick side imo. If you believe in herbert I'd consider holding though over drafting a new qb next year.

I got Herbert for Gaskin... I like Herbert long term, but he would very rarely start for you... I think the 1st is the call.

Top 6 pick vs Herbert and pick 2.10, I take the top 6 pick easy in a 1QB league.

Herbert is looking like a top-5 dyno QB already, but - there will likely be regression next year, and if there's a top 4 pick coming back, I probably take it due to position scarcity. I don't see this as a smash accept tho.

Let's see a back up qb and a 2nd for a early first, accept this deal now. You still have Wentz to play once a year (hopefully) for you.

Thanks for the all the feedback guys, much appreciated. I am going to accept this trade as soon as the league allows trades to be processed (tomorrow) as all players are currently locked for week 7.

I think the two things I am most excited about in this trade are the following:

1. I basically turned Ian Thomas, Jordan Howard, and a 2021 4th rd pick into a top 6 (though most likely top 4) pick in 2021. I traded Ian Thomas (who I probably was going to have to cut come our roster cutdowns anyway) during our draft for the 4.10 pick where I was then able to draft Herbert (was shocked he was still on the board then).

Then right after the draft I traded Jordan Howard and my 4th rd pick for another guys 2021 2nd rd pick. I then took Herbert and that 2021 2nd rd pick in this deal to get this 2021 1st round pick.

2. One of my main objectives going forward over the next few years starting this year is to load up on as many young RB's as possible since I feel I am in good shape with my deep WR group and also at QB where I have the #1 guy in Mahomes and a solid #2 in Wentz.

I started this year by drafting CEH and Dobbins (followed it up with getting Higgins and Claypool to add to my WR depth) and I hope with this high 2021 pick I am now receiving in the trade that I can hopefully get one of the top 3 or so RB's coming out in 2021.

I will also have my own 2021 1st rd pick which will likely be somewhere between 9-12 so depending how things play out I could always snag a 2nd RB in the back half of 1st round or take best remaining WR or TE.
